In 2020 the Air India Express flight crashed at Calicut international airport. Due to poor weather conditions, the flight got crashed, killing 19 passengers and two pilots. The four cabin crew members and 165 passengers survived, of whom all but two were injured.

The survivors and families of victims initiated to building a hospital near the accidental spot to help the public. They raised 50 laks to construct the hospital building. The building is going to be constructed for a Public Health Centre , the only government health facility near the crash site.
“On the day of the accident, the nearest hospital was around eight km away. There is a PHC just 300 meters away from the crash site but lacks facilities.
So the forum has decided to construct the hospital for the first responders who saved many lives on that fateful night. It’s a manner of showing gratitude to the locals who rushed to help the passengers,” said by Mr. Edakkuni who signed the MoU.
In 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic swept the globe, the government of India started an operation to bring back millions of Indians who have stuck abroad due to the cessation of international flights.
In one of the flights was Air India Express flight 1344, a repatriation flight on the 7th of August which was scheduled to bring back a full load of passengers from Dubai to the city of Kozhikode. But the unfortunate weather conditions let the flight to crash.
This is the second accident that happened by air India expressed the previous one was at Mangalore international airport almost 158 people were found dead.
After the accident 2020 flight crashed the DGCA- Directorate general of civil aviation and Flight safety department look into the matter and investigate the incidents. Everything was examined including the voice recorder of flights.
The people who have died, their families and the others who have been injured got insurance compensation from the government.
The amount of the money is based on the injuries. On the accident day, the hospital was about eight kilometers away. And the first responders who helped save many lives that unfortunate night, the forum has decided to build a hospital for them.
To praise their work. Mr. Edakkuni said it’s a way to thank locals who jumped to help the passenger on that cursed day.
Even in a time of full COVID -19, the local people were not hesitated to help the victims of the flight crash. Local people went to help as soon as the incidents happen.
