Air India has appointed former Turkish Airlines chairman Mehmet Ilker Ayci as its new CEO and MD.
Elkar Ayci has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Air India. Ayci has been the Chairman of Turkish Airlines. “After due deliberations, the Board has appointed Elkar Ayci as the CEO and MD of Air India,” said a release issued by Tata Sons.
We are delighted to welcome Ilker to the Tata Group, which will lead Air India into a new era. On the appointment of Ayci, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said, “Ilkar is the leader of the aviation industry who, during his tenure, took Turkish Airlines to new heights under his leadership.” According to the release, the Air India Board held a meeting to consider Ayci’s candidature, and Ayci was a special invitee to this meeting.
According to Tata Sons, this will take over its responsibility on or before April 1, 2022. Responding to his appointment, Ilker Ayci said, “I am delighted to be joining a reputed airline and the Tata Group. I will use Air India’s strong legacy to establish itself as one of the best airlines in the world, working closely with my Air India associates and the Tata Group leadership.
