Kumari, starring Aishwarya Lekshmi, Shine Tom Chako, Swastika, Surabi Lakshmi, and Thanvi Ram, is set to hit theatres on Friday.
This mythological thriller derives its story and characters from “Aithihyamala,” a collection of century-old stories from Kerala. The film is directed by Nirmal Sahadev, who also directed Ranam (2018), and is distributed by Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Prithviraj Productions.
The film is produced under the banner of ” The Fresh Lime Sodas” by Nirmal Sahdev, Giju John, Sreejith Sarang, and Jakes Bijoy. Sreejith Sarang is the editor, and Nirmal Sahdev and Fazal Hameed have written the script for the movie. Jakes Bijoy and Manikandan Ayappa have done the music direction and background, while Kaithaparam Jyothish Kasi has done the lyrics. Abraham Joseph serves as the director of photography.
The movie is presented by Prithviraj and explores Kanhirangad, a cursed land where the residents are ready to sacrifice human lives to protect their power and traditions.
The trailer starts with a warning to the titular character, Kumari, played by Aishwarya Lekshmi, that she should not wander into the forests—a perfect way to start a mythological thriller. In the trailer, we can see that the forest is haunted by the Illymala Chathan.
She is referred to as someone who they have been waiting for twelve generations for her arrival.
In the trailer, a naive ‘Kumari’ is married off to a distant land, Kanhirangad, in the west beyond Illymala into the Namboothiri family, a family who hides some dark secrets.
