Raksha Bandhan and Laal Singh Chaddha are released on the day of Rakhi, August 11.
Akshay Kumar is on a promotional tour for his upcoming film Raksha Bandhan. “Boycott Raksha Bandhan” is now one of the trending topics on social media platforms. A portion of social media users is asking people not to watch the film.
The actor in Kolkata to promote the film recently responded to social media calls for a boycott of Raksha Bandhan and Laal Singh Chaddha, starring Aamir Khan. Both films will be released on Thursday.
In response to the ongoing cancellation culture, Akshay spoke about those calling for Raksha Bandhan to be banned. He said, “If you don’t feel like watching the movie, then don’t. It’s a free country and the film is out there, so if someone wants to watch it or not, it’s up to them. I would like to tell you, no matter which industry it is, be it the clothing industry, film industry, or anything else, all of this help the economy. But doing things like boycotting movies, it doesn’t make sense”
He later added, “We are on the verge of making our country the biggest and the greatest. So, I would just request them don’t get into it and I would also request you (reporter) don’t get into all this. It’ll be better for our country only.”
Earlier, Aamir Khan had asked people to watch his film in theatres and said, “That boycott Bollywood, boycott Aamir Khan, boycott Laal Singh Chaddha. I feel sad. I feel sad because a lot of people who are saying this in their hearts believe I am someone who doesn’t like India. In their hearts, they believe that, but that’s quite untrue,” he said.
The Dangal star added, “I really love the country. That’s how I am. It is rather unfortunate that some people feel that way. I want to assure everyone that it’s not the case so please don’t boycott my films. Please watch my films,” the actor said during a media interaction.
Akshay Kumar is currently traveling all over India to promote his film ahead of its release this Friday. After a pit stop in Kolkata, the actor and crew travel to Lucknow and Delhi with co-stars Sadia Khateeb, Smrithi Srikanth, Deepika Khanna, and Sahejmeen. Kaur.
Akshay wrote, “Team #RakshaBandhan off to Kolkata, then Lucknow Aur Phir Jayenge Dilli (then we will be in Delhi). Honestly, filmmaking is a cakewalk, par promotions Bache ki Jaan le lete hai (promotions are the toughest part).”
Directed by Aanand L Rai, Raksha Bandhan centers around Akshay’s character Lala Kedarnath and her four sisters, played by Sadia Khateeb, Sahejmeen Kaur, Deepika Khanna, and Smrithi Srikanth. The family entertainer focuses on Lala, who wants to marry off all four of her sisters and works tirelessly to achieve it to show them a good life. Actor Bhumi Pednekar is also part of the film and is paired with Akshay in the film.
One of the central themes of the upcoming film is dowry abuse, which the actor says “unfortunately” is still rampant in society.
“In the name of a gift to the groom’s household, some parents of a girl call it dowry… My film talks about the problem. It has many elements which are relatable,” he said.
Akshay further said, “He endorses the call by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hoist the tricolor at every household from August 13-15. In the 75th year of our independence, I endorse the call by our honorable PM. Every patriotic Indian should do the same”.
