Amazon announced a new model of Kindle on Tuesday. The new 2022 model seems to be a significant upgrade of the 2019 base model.
The latest entry-level Kindle from Amazon features redesigned look, sharper display, and USB-C charging. These are very significant changes to the previous model. The new Kindle also has a larger battery.
The 2019 model of Kindle didn’t seem to go well with the users. The design felt outdated; it had the worst screen in the lineup. The reading experience was terrible with such a low-resolution screen, as users were already accustomed to better displays.
The charging was also the low point, with Amazon still offering a micro USB cable for its base model. While the world quickly moved on to a USB-C charger, it made no sense why Amazon would still stick with the micro USB.
The most significant change is the improved display, which is much sharper than the last model. The text will now be clearer instead of slightly blurry, making reading more comfortable.
The Kindle Paperwhite, although more expensive, has long been the default best option for the majority of users. It had a better screen, a USB-C charger, and a better front light.
With the new 2022 model, Amazon is trying to win back its customers. The US tech giant is offering considerable changes to its base model without being heavy on the pocket.

Features of Amazon’s new Kindle
The newly announced Kindle is the most affordable in the lineup, with a vast improvement over the previous generation. With a 6-inch display, it weighs 158 grams and is slightly smaller than the Paperwhite at 157.8 x 108.6 x 8.0 mm.
The latest model will feature a high-resolution screen at 300ppi, a significant improvement over the last model’s 167ppi. The screen sharpness is now on par with Kindle Paperwhite. Texts will be sharper, and you can adjust the front light to read at places where there might not be enough light.
Amazon says the 300ppi high-resolution display has three times more pixels for laser-quality text and sharp images that read like paper.
Dark mode and adjustable front light assure a comfortable reading experience in all conditions. The device comes with a built-in dictionary to quickly look up a word. It also features X-Ray, which provides essential details regarding the people or places mentioned in a book.
Although the front light has four LEDs, it lacks the more advanced backlight features of Kindle Paperwhite. No temperature adjustment means you can’t change the white balance to an orange hue for comfortable reading.
The new entry-level Kindle is not water resistant, so you’ll want to keep it away from rain and other moist areas.
Amazon has finally ditched the micro USB port for USB-C, which is the more common port used by Android smartphones, Apple tablets, and more. This might be a big relief for users who have long wanted to throw away the last of their outdated micro USB cables.
The built-in storage has also been doubled from 8GB to 16GB. That is insanely ample storage for books but might come in handy for big audiobook listeners. Amazon says the battery for new devices will last up to 6 weeks with 30 minutes of reading per day and wireless connectivity switched off.
The new Kindle is made up of 30-75 percent recycled plastics and 90 percent recycled magnesium, according to Amazon. The new Kindle will come in two colors: black and denim.
