On Wednesday, Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada announced reshuffling in the Cabinet. Anita Anand, An Indo-Canadian was promoted to the position of treasury board president. Formerly, she was a Minister of National Defence.

Trudeau praised Anand’s experience and expertise, saying that she is “uniquely qualified” for the role. “I have every confidence that she will excel in her new position,” he said.
Anita Anand’s background is impressive, with experience as a law professor and researcher, as well as her previous roles as the Minister of National Defence and the Minister of Public Services and Procurement. As a procurement minister in PM Trudeau’s last government, she worked closely with him to procure COVID-19 vaccines for Canada.
In 2019, Anand was elected as the MP for Oakville and is on the board of directors for several organisations including the Lighthouse Program for Grieving Children.
She has BA (Honours) in Political Studies and Jurisprudence from Queen’s University and the University of Oxford respectively. Further, she has pursued a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University, and a Master of Laws from the University of Toronto.

The New Cabinet

Former Minister of Emergency Preparedness, Bill Blair has been appointed as the new Minister of National Defence in the recent cabinet reshuffle taking the ministry from Anita Anand.
Dominic LeBlanc has been appointed as the new Minister of Public Safety that includes the Security Intelligence Service of Canada and the RCMP. Moreover He will continue to serve as the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, as well as Minister of Foreign Affairs Melanie Joly, have retained their posts in the recent cabinet reshuffle.
INDO-CANADIANS IN THE NEW CABINET
Harjit Sajjan, who previously served as the Minister of National Defence from 2015 to 2021 has been appointed as the King’s Privy Council President and the Minister of Emergency Preparedness.
Kamal Khera, who had been the Minister of Seniors since October 2021, has been appointed as the new Minister of Diversity, Inclusion, and Persons with Disabilities. She was first elected from Brampton West in 2015 and became the youngest Liberal MP in the Canadian government.
Ruby Sahota who was elected as a MP in 2015 federal election from Brampton North, will take over as Chief Government Whip from Steven MacKinnon.
Arif Virani, a lawyer and a MP from Ontario has been appointed as Canada’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General.
