The India bowler Avesh Khan has been ruled out of the remainder of the competition after missing the Asia Cup 2022 Super 4s matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan owing to fever. He will be replaced on the Team India roster by all-arounder Deepak Chahar.
“Avesh has a fever and he has also got sinus-related problems which have escalated post-illness. It will not be possible for him to take a further part in the tournament. Deepak Chahar is already there and he will be drafted in THE main squad,” a senior BCCI officer told PTI.
The Indian speed star has failed to impress with his bowling in the recent Asia Cup. He played two games for India in the group stage and was highly costly. He bowled two overs against Pakistan, allowing 19 runs and taking Fakhar Zaman’s wicket. In India’s second game against Hong Kong, the bowler handed up 53 runs in his 4-over quota while taking only one wicket.
Avesh has been in bad form since the West Indies trip, and the Indian team management’s concerns were compounded when he was struck for 50 or more runs by Hong Kong hitters.Â
Due to a fever, he was ruled out of the Pakistan game, although coach Rahul Dravid anticipated him to be healthy for the remaining games. With Avesh’s sinusitis issues appearing, the medical team was forced to rule him out.Â
India, on the other hand, has a very effective swing bowler in Deepak Chahar who tends to grab wickets in Powerplay overs. He recently made a comeback on a Zimbabwe trip, playing two 50-over games.
Because the Asia Cup team was revealed before the Zimbabwe tour, the selectors were unable to include him in the primary squad because his match fitness had not yet been established. A BCCI source stated that in any event, Deepak’s return was inevitable because, before the injury, he was ahead of Avesh in the pecking order. He further added that it is terrible that the fast bowler is out, and everyone hopes that Avesh will be fit for the Australia series.
Avesh has participated in 15 T20 International matches for the India National CricketÂ
Team, taking 13 wickets with a strike rate of 21.3, an economy of 9.10, and an average of 32.46.
