The win-win strategy of China
Chinese Communist Party ruled China had always been under lenses regarding its debt trap policies. There is always a suitable outcome for Xi Jinping if there is any win-win strategy in the making with any developing or underdeveloped countries.
There has been a number of instances when the Chinese government was involved in the so-called “win-win strategy”.
Though the most prominent and latest examples are Sri Lanka and Pakistan, South African countries are not so far away from the list.
US stance:
The latest reports by the United States free speech think tank “Freedom House” revealed that about 18 African countries were directed by Xi Jinping’s government to work for his image-building program.
It is said that the media houses, journalists and social media of those countries are being coerced. China has also released Rs 75 lakh crores for the said profile cleansing project.
On August 2018, China announced to cancel loans of almost 18 South African countries. There were several reports suggesting this strategy in China to be malicious. And as always, it was vehemently denied by the Communist government.
Responses by the Chinese government:
According to Chinese officials, these claims are considered to be a story concocted by western countries to malign China’s goodwill. They, on the other hand, have created an opinion that these countries are economically suppressed by western companies.
China’s media sector has also been working for negating those allegations.
What are those win-win strategies of China?
The Chinese government have been cleverly targeting economically dried countries.
Since the 2000s, they have given loans to these deprived nations knowing that their condition might not facilitate them to repay the loans.
Some reports show that between 2000-2019, China pardoned loans amounting $5 billion per year in Africa.
In lieu of forgiving the debt, they have established their economic cooperation tool. They are making prominent progress in the mining sectors, oil exploration and construction sector. Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is the perfect example showcasing its win in win-win strategy. It has been fully extended in the Sub-Saharan region like South Africa and Sudan.
Their indebtedness is strategically leveraged by the means of economic, political and military favors. These places are also used to survey any nearby cardinal interested countries.
These hostile economic, coercive political and military schemes are immensely important for the world to keep an eye on. Especially when there are living instances of their debt trap policies, these steps should not be ignored, even if it’s economically profitable for the involved country. The win-win strategy offered by China seems to be more than what it is in the papers legally.
