McDonald’s, Starbucks, Coco-Cola join 290 other companies in suspending operations in Russia over the Ukraine war

On Tuesday, McDonald’s and Starbucks announced that they were pulling out from Russia. Coco-Cola also said that they would suspend their operations in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. These companies became the latest in line to bow down to public pressure and halt their operations in Russia. Over 300 companies have withdrawn from the country over its aggressive assault of Ukraine. Russia announces a third ceasefire to allow evacuations after violating the previous two

On Monday, Russia announced a ceasefire in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Mariupol, and Sumy from 10 AM local time (12:30 PM IST) to set up humanitarian corridors for civilian evacuations. This ceasefire came at the ‘personal request’ of French President Emmanuel Macron, according to Russia’s defense ministry. Previous attempts at ceasefire collapsed when Russian forces resumed offensive before the agreed-upon time. The first attempt took place on Saturday with the opening of evacuation routes in Mariupol and Volnovakha. Ukraine update: Russia sets fire to Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.

A fire broke out at Europe’s biggest nuclear power plant, Zaporizhzhia, following an attack by Russian troops on Friday. According to the authorities, the fire has been extinguished, and no critical damage has been done to the infrastructure. At 2:30 A.M local time on Friday, it was reported by Ukrainian authorities that the nuclear power plant was on fire. The power plant is located nearby Enerhodar in southeastern Ukraine. India on Saturday abstained from voting on the US-sponsored UNSC resolution that “deplores in strongest terms” the country’s “aggression” against Ukraine demanding an immediate withdrawal of troops. The resolution failed as expected because of Moscow’s veto power as a permanent member of the council. Eleven of the fifteen members voted for the motion cowritten by United States and Albania.
