Nearly 13 years after the release of the global blockbuster ‘Avatar’, director James Cameron is gearing up for a re-release in theaters before his sequel ‘The Way of Water’ hits the big screen.
Starring the lead actors, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez and Stephen Lang, the director sat down for a global roundtable where they candidly talked about the film and how it “look better” than ever.
“If you’re under 22 or 23, it’s very, very unlikely that you’ve seen the movie in the cinema, which in some way means you haven’t. The film as we intended it to be seen,” Cameron said. said while revealing that the film was made for viewing on the big screen, in 3D.
Revealing what’s available in store for fans, he said: “We made the movie for the big screen in 3D and now we’ve remade it in 4K and high dynamic range and a some 48fps parts in the movie. It looks better than it’s ever seen.”
The director also shared that he and his entire cast saw the new remake and said, “It blew our minds. We were very impressed with the look of the movie and the actual experience of the movie. “
Sam Worthington, who plays one of the lead roles in the film, revealed how the film’s story is timeless. Using his character Jake Sully as a reference, he explained, “It’s the story of a young man who has gone to another planet, and he is looking for something – wants to. belonging – and he found in another culture that he didn’t really have.. I think a sense of belonging permeates all of us, we are all looking for our own little plan , our group, the group of people who can comfort us and give us confidence and then we can learn, and I think there’s something very exciting about that.”
Cameron added, saying the human experiences in the film help people around the world better relate to it. He explains: “I think when we were kids, we were innately in love with nature – we loved animals, we loved being in nature – and as our lives progressed, We’re getting further and further away from nature.”
He added, “I think society in general, all over the world, has to some degree a nature deficit disorder. And I think this film takes us back to the childhood wonder of childhood. the grandeur, the complexity and the beauty of nature.”
Zoe Saldana, who plays the female lead, was asked about her experience seeing the film for the first time on screen. She also explained that it could be because of how she feels she has grown as an actor and artist from the beginning of the production to the end.
‘Avatar, originally released in 2009, has won 3 Oscars and 9 nominations. The film became the highest-grossing film of all time. However, it was beaten by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ which took the crown for a few weeks until Cameron re-released ‘Avatar’ in China, which once again pushed it to the top with totals. $2.798 billion.
The next installment in the series – ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, which has been delayed several times, will now be released in December 2022.
