Babul Supriyo to Find a Berth in TMC Congress, as the Bengal CM opts for “younger” Faces

After getting defeated in the 2021 Assembly elections, Babul Supriyo declared that he will not be joining politics and also resign as MP in Lok Sabha. However, in the presence of Abhishek Banerjee, Supriyo joined the TMC Congress on 18th September 2021.
On Monday Mamata Banerjee declared that there will be a reshuffle within four or five new faces, to fit into the council of ministers. She said that presently several departments are working on without any dedicated minister and it’s been difficult for her to look into all such departments. She said that there will be a reshuffle in the Cabinet, but no plan has been made about dissolving the cabinets and forming a new one.
This decision took a place, especially after the arrest of Partha Chatterjee who was in charge of four departments in the cabinet of the council of ministers in the TMC Congress.
As the Bengal chief minister carries out the reshuffle in the political holds on the 3rd August 2022, Wednesday, Babul Supriyo is likely to be among the ministers to be inducted into the West Bengal government.
Highly placed sources conducted the message that apart from Supriyo, Snehasish Chakraborty, Partha Bhowmik, Udayan Guha and Pradip Majumder may also get berth apart from Babul Supriyo. District leaders, Biplab Roy Chowdhury, Tajmul Hossain, and Satyajit Burman will be appointed as the Ministers of State.
MoS Birbaha Hansda, who is existing in the ministry will get an independent charge.
Babul Supriyo was elected on a TMC ticket from the Ballygunge Assembly seat. He settled in the vacant seat of veteran leader and minister Subrata Mukherjee, who passed away. Since then, there has been speculation about Supriyo might be made a minister. However, Mamta Banerjee was never keen on the situation then at that time.
Among the new ministers, a senior TMC leader said, “Mamata Banerjee wanted a younger Cabinet. This is why younger faces of the party, such as Supriyo, Bhowmik, Chakraborty, may be inducted.” He also added that, Abhishek Banerjee.
Second, in command and all-India general secretary wants to bring young faces into the new reshuffle of the Cabinet. Abhishek also wanted to bring leaders like Babul Supriyo, and Partha Bhowmik to the front, he continued.
District leaders will be picked up to counter the charge as TMC Ministry has its 11 years of Kolkata-centric.
Among the sitting ministers, there will be reshuffles in the portfolios. As informed by the sources, senior leaders and ministers Manas Ghatak and Manas Bhunia will be getting more responsibilities, whereas ministers that of Firhad Hakim and Chandrima Bhattacharya, will have a decrease in their responsibilities. Soumen Mahapatra, for acquiring the district unit president will be most probably dropped from the Cabinet.
At Monday’s Cabinet meeting Mamata Banerjee said that she will be including new faces in the cabinet. The important members of the cabinet, Subrata Mukherjee and Sadhan Pandey passed away in the last year and in February 2022 respectively.
Partha Chatterjee is in jail due to the School Service Commission recruitment scam of money laundering. It’s an immediate decision to be taken for the Cabinet formation, as all these leaders were taking control over important sectors like panchayat, consumer affairs,s, and industry respectively.
She added as its being difficult for her to handle such pressure, she is willing to welcome new and younger faces into the cabinet and will be also sending some leaders to the party organization.
