Bajrang Da’s activist Monu Manesar has been picked up by Haryana Police for the accusation of inciting communal violence, involvement in lynching, and double murder. He is to reportedly be handled to the Rajasthan Police as he was booked for the murder of two Muslim men in February.
Why is the murderer Monu Manesar to be detained?
Bajrang Dal’s very own cow vigilante was booked by the Rajasthan police in February for the alleged murder of two Muslim men as well as for instigating recent communal violence in Nuh. Mohit Yadav who goes by the alias of Monu Manesar was taken into custody this Tuesday as quoted by his organization.
Monu Manesar, a flashing and prominent face in the politics surrounding cow vigilantism in Haryana is one of the 21 names of the accused in the FIR filed against the brutal murder of Junaid (35) and Nasir (27). The burnt and charred bodies of both the boys, also cousins were found in a vehicle in Haryana’s Bhiwani on February 16. Cow vigilantes reportedly abducted individuals from Bharatpur district in Rajasthan and subsequently crossed the state border into Haryana.
Monu Manesar is also accused of releasing two out of the three instigating videos on the internet on July 28, some time ahead of the Yatra. A senior officer at the Police department also confirmed that the release of the videos provoked the community and instigated communal clashes and violence. However, the Haryana police department is only questioning him regarding the case of widespread communal violence while the double-murder case is being handled by the Rajasthan Police.
Back in 2014, he was also accused of raping four minor school girls and the accusations were brushed off under the carpet as BJP rose to power during the elections. Monu Manesar has also been accused of making controversial and inflammatory comments about the recent communal clash in Nuh which he is denying.
What should be done with the cow vigilante murderer?
The Haryana Police is yet to confirm if Monu Manesar has been detained or not as payment for his heinous crimes and instigating violence and public lynching. Vishnu Hari Prasad, an office bearer of Bajrang Dal’s parent organization has confirmed that he was picked up by the police in Gurgram with Mamta Singh leading the investigation and proceedings.
A video clip is being circulated on X (formerly known as Twitter) shows plainclothed policemen taking Monu Manesar, originally known as Mohit Yadav into custody in their jeeps.
Another video clip surfaced on July 31 with Monu Manesar saying that he would partake voluntarily in the Brij Mandal Jalabhishek procession and asked people to join the Yatra alongside him. He instigated people to riot and cause havoc.
A violent mob targeted the VHP-led procession in Haryana’s Nuh, resulting in the tragic loss of six lives in both Nuh and Gurugram. The region had been in a state of high tension for several days, with authorities implementing prohibitory orders and imposing restrictions on mobile internet usage.
Last month, the Rajasthan Police disclosed that they were actively investigating Manesar’s involvement in conspiring and abetting the crime.
Haryana’s Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, additionally expressed his commitment to extending any necessary assistance to the Rajasthan Police in capturing individuals related to the case.
In contrast, Varun Sharma, a VHP office bearer in Haryana, asserted on Tuesday that there is no legal case against Manesar. He further contended that Bajrang Dal workers were being subjected to unwarranted harassment and vehemently condemned such actions.
