The UK gives 3,000 visas for young professionals from India to work in the UK each year.
India is the first visa-national country to benefit from the U-India Visa deal. The British government added that this scheme will also highlight the strength of the UK-India migration and mobility partnership.
As per the prime minister’s official statement, “I know first-hand the incredible value of the deep cultural and historic ties we have with India.
I am pleased that even more of India’s brightest young people will now have the opportunity to experience all that life in the UK has to offer – and vice-versa – making our economies and societies richer.”
UK INDIA YOUNG PROFESSIONAL SCHEME
The ‘Migration and Mobility Partnership’ memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreed upon between UK and India is fundamentally improving migration cooperation.
The scheme is intended to allow young Indian citizens to work in the UK for the span of 2 years.
The MOU states ” the participants decide to allow the young professionals already in employment or entering work-life who wish to improve their career prospects through the experience of a salaried work in a company, registered in accordance with the laws and regulations of a particular country.
In this context, both Participants jointly decide to create a new scheme (the Young Professionals Scheme) specifically designed to create opportunities for young professionals”.
Under the UK India Young Professional Scheme, the British government will provide 3000 visas each year for all degree-educated Indian citizens between the age of 18 and 30. The citizens who want to visit the country and work there for two years will benefit from this scheme.
Eligibility criteria for UK-India Young Professional Scheme:
- The citizens will have to hold a diploma or a degree equivalent to at least three years of higher education.
- The citizens should be able to express themselves in the language of the host country.
It is to be noted that the deal was announced after Rishi Sunak met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the 17th edition of the G20 summit.
This was their first meeting after Sunak (the Indian – origin British PM) assumed office last month.
“The UK India Young Professional Scheme was confirmed today, offering 3000 visas to Indian citizens between the ages of 18 and 30 willing to work for two years after their higher education”- The UK Prime Minister’s Office wrote on Twitter.
Who can apply for UK-India Young Professionals Scheme?
The UK’s Youth Mobility scheme has no qualification. But to be a hopeful applicant under the UK India Young Professional Scheme, the citizen should hold a diploma or degree equivalent for three years of higher education and should be able to express themselves in the language of the host country.
“The scheme will be of a greater significance for our bilateral relationship with India and the UK’s wider commitment to forging stronger links with the Indo-Pacific region to strengthen both our economies.”Downing Street said in a statement.

This scheme has also highlighted that The UK has more links with India than almost any other country in the Indo-Pacific Region.
According to the stats, nearly a quarter of all international students are from India, and Indian investment into the UK supports 95000 jobs across the UK.
Along with this scheme, the UK is currently negotiating trade deals with India – if agreed will be the first deal of its kind India has made with a European Country.
The trade deal will positively add to the UK-India trading relationship and will allow the UK to seize the opportunities presented by India’s growing economy.

In addition to the scheme partnership with India, the British government also said it is strengthening its ability to remove immigrant offenders.
Hence, The Bali meeting has proved to be significant and beneficial for the UK-India relationship and it has increased the chances of future trade agreements between the countries.
The scheme has unlocked many professional opportunities for the youth of India. The eligible citizens can be directed with the application process and have an achievement of two successful years of work environment in the UK.
