Due to his issues with drug and alcohol addiction, actor Bam Margera has been subjected to psychiatric evaluation.
The Jackass actor was discovered by police on Sunday at Trejo’s Tacos in Los Angeles, according to a number of sources, and they decided to send him to a mental health facility because of his erratic speech, behaviour, and reported threats to harm himself. According to California law, a person who is deemed to be a danger to himself or others may be held against their will for up to 72 hours for mental evaluation and crisis management. It’s unknown if Bam is still kept there.
“5150” Hold and Suicidal Threats
The decision was made to put the actor in an involuntary psychiatric hold, sometimes known as a “5150,” which refers to Article 1, Section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code. This was combined with recent suicidal threats the actor had made.
Last week, Bam made a trip to Los Angeles in an effort to meet Phoenix, the 5-year-old kid he had with his estranged wife, Nikki Margera. Nikki, according to Bam’s social media claims, has been keeping him from seeing Phoenix because of his addiction issues for months.
Just days before going missing, the disturbed actor had posted a video in which he vowed to “smoke crack” until he died if his son wasn’t allowed to see him. The 43-year-old actor’s brother, Jess Margera, pleaded the residents in the Los Angeles area to call authorities “immediately” if they were aware of Bam’s location. The professional skateboarder’s downhill spiral has been going on for months as he battles drug and alcohol addiction in the midst of his divorce from Nikki, who won’t let Bam see Phoenix unless he seeks treatment.
Tweet Confirms Safety, but Concerns Persist
In a subsequent tweet, Jess stated that they had located him and that he was safe. At 6 a.m. this morning, he texted Jess and his parents to say that he loved them, Phoenix. He texted that he was “at peace” and that he had taken enough medications to stop his heart.
Margera has been a part of various public incidents during the past year. Following an alleged “physical altercation” with his brother at his Chester County residence in April, he turned himself in to police. Later, Margera refuted the claims on Instagram. Prior to that, he was detained for public intoxication at a restaurant in Los Angeles and for reportedly kicking a woman; both charges were later dropped after he secured bail.
Margera disclosed that he had finished a 12-month drug and alcohol abuse treatment programme in May of last year.
