Rajkumar Rao has been doing social-dram a for quite some time, but this time he has teamed with none other than Anubhav Sinha. Anubhav Sinha is known for his amazing artwork of bringing social atrocities and real-life events to mainstream cinema with powerpack performances.
Movies directed by him like Mulk, Thappad, Article 15, and others are loved by the audience at the box office, but they are more appreciated by the critics for the plot, direction, and overall performances by the cast.
Anubhav presents his work in such a way that it leaves an impact on ordinary life, and “Bheed” is such a piece of work.
Shot in black and white on film, the trailer of the movie was dropped today, March 10th, by the cast and crew on their social media handles with the caption about the darkest times faced by the people of the country and one man’s daring to save it all on his own.
Starring Rajkumar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar, Día Mirza, Ashutosh Rana, and Kritika Kamra in major roles, the initial shots of the trailer resemble the visuals of the 1947 partition of India and Pakistan. But they are the events faced by the common people during the 2020 lockdown across the country. Pankaj Kapoor is seen as an ordinary man who wants to go back to his hometown.
Voice of PM Modi:
The trailer begins with the voice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing the lockdown across the country. Da Mirza is seen announcing the closing of the state borders, and Kritika Kamra is seen reporting the updates from the crowd of people leaving the big cities for their hometowns.
Rajkumar Rao:
Rajkumar Rao is seen wearing a police uniform and helping people with food and basic needs throughout their travel. He tries to assist them on a larger scale, but the politics of the ruling class prevent him. Rajkumar is seen getting shouted at by his senior, aka Ashutosh Rana. His success in his ventures is yet to be known.
COVID Lockdown:
The movie showcases the problems faced by the people of the country at the time of the COVID lockdown. Anubhav shot the movie in black and white to bring out the horror, silent screams, and authenticity of those times. The colorless visuals stand for the colors that were being sucked out of the lives of the people of the country during those times of difficulty.
Anubhav opened about Bheed in an interview, saying that he wants people to understand and remember the horrors faced by the other section of society when we were dealing with other kinds of problems.
Bheed is an attempt to bring their story to light and make it visible to everyone, so they remember what happened and never forget. ‘Bheed’ clearly talks about the division of the crowds into two sections: while the rich were clearly safe in the luxury of their houses, it was the working class, migrants, and lower middle class that faced horror. The film promises an impressive ensemble.
The Badhaii Do duo, actor Rajkumar Rao and actress Bhumi Pednekar, who also plays a crucial role in the film, shared that working on Bheed was deeply emotional for them. The film is very special for them, and they are grateful that they are a major part of it.
“Working with a stellar cast and in an Anubhav Sinha movie, who is himself the master of telling real-life stories, it has been an honor to be able to bring this film to the screens,” Bhumi added.
Bheed is a joint production of Anubhav Sinha’s Benares Mediaworks and Bhushan Kumar.
The movie will hit theaters on March 24, the day when the lockdown was initially announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, two years ago, in India.
