Aam Aadmi Party is on its way to registering a historic victory in Punjab, the same way it did
in Delhi Assembly Election in 2020. AAP is leading in 92 seats while the ruling Congress
alliance is ahead in 18 seats in the 117-member House according to Election Commission
data as of 10:15 pm.
As trends show AAP’s unassailable lead in the battle of Punjab Elections, AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal said, Do you know who defeated Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi?
AAP candidate who works in a mobile repair shop. He was referring to AAP’s Bahadaur candidate Labh Singh Ugoke. Apart from Channi, there are other big names as well which got listed in this list. Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu lost from Amritsar East as political novice Jeewan JyotKaur of the AAP has emerged victorious.
Punjab politics has been dominated for decades by the Badal family, however, this time, the
patriarch of the Badal family Prakash Singh Badal, his son Sukhbir Singh Badal and
Sukhbir’s brother-in-law Bikram Singh Majithia, all tasted humbling defeats in front of the
AAP juggernaut.
Just like the Badals, Captain Amarinder Singh has been an imposing figure in Punjab politics for a long time. He even gave a beleaguered Congress some hope in 2017 when he led the party to a comfortable win in Punjab.
The scale of AAP’s win could be gauged from the fact that despite a five-cornered contest,
AAP got a 42% vote share, 17% higher than the 2017 election.
The major reason behind such massive gain is that the people of Punjab were unhappy for long with the performance of traditional parties as they were blamed for the rise in the drug menace and mafia raj. Another reason was the impact of the farmers’ movement.
