Nearly half of UP’s 403 assembly seats would have voted after phase three: Election 2022
Today Uttar Pradesh is voting in the third phase of polling, with Fifty-nine constituencies spread across 16 districts. At the same time, Congress-ruled Punjab is also voting today.
- Till 9 am, UP recorded a voter turnout of 8.15 percent, and Punjab clocked 4.80 percent.
- In UP, after polling began, the Samajwadi Party claimed discrepancies in EVM in Kanpur Rural. The party professed that even after a voter pressed the button next to Samajwadi Party, VVPAT issued a slip of the BJP. They asked the Election Commission to take note.
- In UP, all eyes are on the Karhal seat in the Yadav family stronghold Mainpuri from where Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is contesting his first state elections. The BJP has fielded Union Minister SP Singh Baghel against him.
- Nearly half of UP’s 403 assembly seats would have voted after phase three. One hundred seventy-two seats will finish polling after this phase.
- Punjab will vote to elect 117 members to the state assembly in a single phase.
- Prominent faces in Punjab are Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi from the Chamkaur Sahib seat, AAP’s Bhagwant Mann from Dhuri, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu against SAD’s Bikram Singh Majithia from the Amritsar East seat Captain Amarinder Singh from Patiala, and Sukhbir Singh Badal from the Jalalabad Assembly constituency.
