Pritam Munde, a BJP MP from Maharashtra, offered her support to the wrestlers protesting for the arrest of Wrestlers Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan amid allegations of sexual harassment. She said that a movement of this magnitude shouldn’t go ignored.
When a woman makes a complaint this serious, it should be taken as fact, according to Munde.
BJP MP Pritam Munde Supports Wrestler’s Protest
One shouldn’t question a woman who makes a complaint this seriously. We are all aware that the International Wrestling Federation has made note of this issue and has provided certain guidelines, so I don’t need to seek the creation of an independent inquiry commission on this topic. BJP MP Munde remarked, Now there will be an investigation into this incident.
“Any party, ideology, or government might be engaged, she added. I think it is unfair if a movement of this magnitude is ignored. It should be taken seriously and should receive the proper attention”.
In a situation like this, the government should have spoken with the wrestlers in a certain way, but that hasn’t happened, according to Munde. “Even if I am a member of this government, one must realize that we didn’t interact with the wrestlers in the way that we should have,” she said.
According to my party, one should put the country above the party and one’s own interests. She added that it’s crucial to express one’s ideas freely.
Wrestlers Went to Immerse Medals in Ganga
Olympic medalists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, as well as gold-medal winner Vinesh Phogat from the Asian Games, traveled to Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar on Tuesday with their fans to immerse their medals in the Ganga.
However, the wrestlers decided to postpone their plan to throw their medals into the river after speaking with agricultural activist Naresh Tikait. They gave the relevant authorities a five-day deadline to take action against the WFI chief.
Brij Bhushan Singh was the subject of two prior FIRs from the Delhi Police. The second FIR was filed because a woman’s modesty was offended, but the first FIR was filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act in response to claims made by a young wrestler.
Brij Bhushan Singh’s Statement
BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh, though, asserted on Thursday that the wrestlers who are protesting are constantly altering their requests and words, and he stood by his threat to commit suicide if even one of the accusations against him were found to be true.
The protesting wrestlers initially had a different demand, which they later altered. Their needs and language are always shifting. If even one of the accusations against me turned out to be true, I threatened to commit suicide. Singh informed reporters in Gonda, “I stick by my comments.”
However, they have been holding a dharna at Jantar Mantar since April 23 to call for the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the head of the Wrestling Federation of India and a BJP member who is accused of harassing female wrestlers. Singh has refuted the allegations.
While Sakshi Malik earned bronze in Rio 2016, Bajrang Punia won bronze at the delayed Tokyo Olympics, and Vinesh Phogat grabbed a medal at the world championship.
