The Agra Rural legislative assembly constituency went to the polls on February 10. Baby Rani Maurya, is a well-known Jatav leader of the region and an expected candidate of BJP from Agra Rural Vidhan Sabha seat.
Her political journey was very exceptional, she was the first Dalit woman to become Agra’s mayor in 1995.
From 2002 to 2005, later she become the second woman Governor of the Uttarakhand state after Margaret Alva when he took oath as the Uttarakhand Governor. She served on the National Commission for Women.
In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, Agra Rural was won by the BJP candidate Hemlata Diwakar.
He defeated Kalicharan Suman BSP’s candidate. earlier, in the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha elections, the seat was held by BSP’s Kali Charan Suman.
