The famed Indian Costume designer and maestro, Manish Malhotra delves into the world behind the cinematic silver screen; announces his own production house: STAGE5.
It is only a few hours ago that Manish Malhotra announced his own production house that goes by the name of STAGE5, to which a lot of celebrities from B-town were quick to show their love and support for the designer’s long held back passion.
The designer took to his Instagram to share the news by asserting that ever since childhood he’s known to have a calling for colours, clothes and Films. And while he garnered a great deal of success for his love for designs and clothes, established his own label and embarked on new heights. Now is the time that he wishes to bridge the gap between his love for both Fashion and what goes behind the silver screen : a production house that brings forward great talent and distinctive vision.
The designer’s friend and film director/ producer, Karan Johar congratulated him on the big move and stated that STAGE5 is a testament to his passion and will await for the magic to now unravel on the screen. The tinsel town was absolutely buzzing with congratulatory messages from all, that wished nothing but success to the star.
For the designer, this new chapter seems like a natural and seamless progression following his elaborate career of over 3 glorious decades. In these years, he has added his midas touch to over 800 films through costume design and styling.Tracing back to the time in 2007, Manish Malhotra also graced the screen with his cameo in the song “ Deewangi Deewangi” was also a moment in fine glory.
The theatrics and cinematic grandeur is never bereft of a piece from the designer’s collection. Be it his simple yet sensuous styling in and for Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997) or the bold yet aesthetic approach in Rangeela (1995), setting fashion conventions and trends with skirts, dupattas, crop tops and pants, or giving a new unique colour palette for bridal wear. And how can we not speak about bold patterns and colours without the latest ‘Rani’ collection that had the most rich and vibrant sarees worn by Alia Bhatt’s character Rani in ‘Rocky aur Rani ki Prem Kahani.’ But now to see stories being weaved in the fabrics of the greatest talents would definitely be a treat to watch.
Malhotra over the spanning years of his success has designed and styled multiple icons and made great pals with all. It would be exciting to know who among his friends might make the fit and come on board for his film production debut.
Or wait, has there been something cooking already? According to certain reports, a biopic of the legendary Meena Kumari is in the works and has apparently even reached its final set of drafting, and the star who would be gracing the role is none other than Kriti Sanon. The late actress, Meena Kumari was a splendid artist and a dignified legend, who’s story blended with the grandeur of Manish Malhotra’s design and vision would make an absolute theatrical experience. Formerly, although the reports of the biopic caused fury for the late actress’s stepson Tajdar Amrohi who opposed the film.
Fans of fashion and film alike, are eagerly waiting for STAGE5’s debut cinema and whatever is in store for the designer’s new venture.
