Facebook’s New Step Towards Water Conservation
Facebook plans towards water sustainability till 2030, their latest step towards climate change.
Facebook will be consuming less water than it used to for its global operations by 2030. Facebook consumes water mainly to cool down the computers that run in the data centres.
In 2020 Facebook claimed that it withdrew 3.7 million cubic meters of water. Facebook said that they are looking for various ways to increase water efficiency in its facilities.
They intend to focus on the regions where they can use local water supply.
Sylvia Lee, a sustainable water lead at Facebook, said that water is the core element that impacts climate change.
Wildfires, droughts and floods have a massive impact on climate change, and all of these disasters are tied up with water.
The USA submitted a recent report. They warned that global warming is close to 1.5 degrees Celsius or 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
They fear that it will be beyond our reach in the next two decades if there are no significant reductions in greenhouse emissions.
According to the reports, a 2 degree Celsius rise would be critical for agriculture and health.
Facebook initiative
Facebook has taken the initiative in water restoration by launching its projects in Oregon, California, New Mexico, Utah, Texas and Arizona.
Facebook has also planted seventy thousand trees in California to help restore the burnt areas by wildfires in 2018.
Facebook announced that their data centres run on 100 per cent renewable energy reaching zero emissions. The company’s goal is to get net zero in the entire energy chain by the year 2030.
Rising Crime Rate In Rajasthan
This year the state of Rajasthan has witnessed an increase in crime rates. Looking at the statistics of crimes in Rajasthan, this year, the number of rape cases registered was 3,777 between the months of January and July.
In the previous year, the rape cases reported were 2,972. This means there is a rise of 25.07 per cent of rape cases in the state of Rajasthan.
Similarly, the crime rate against Dalit women increased to 28%, cases registered for theft saw a rise of 28% and cases reported for burglary increased by 20.35%. There is an overall increase of 14% in crime rates between this year and the previous one.
When citizens report a case of theft, rape and murder, the local leaders rally against Ashok Gehlot, the chief minister of Rajasthan.
Satish Poonia, BJP state president, said that the Congress leaders are busy consolidating their power, which leads to criminals getting fearless and people fearful.
Every day many cases of loot, murder and rapes are reported all over the state, and yet the Chief minister ignores the chaos.
To respond to Satish Poonia, the chief minister Ashok Gehlot said that the BJP spread fake crime data.
An FIR is compulsorily registered in the police station for every complaint received. This led to an increase in criminal cases in the state. He said that there is a difference between the rise in crime and the rise in crime registration.
He stated that in 2020 due to lockdown, crime rates against women dropped to 16% compared to 2019 and an 11% decline in rape cases registered. If compared to the year 2019, the crime rates in 2021 dropped to 10%.
