The 5G technology
In the field of telecommunications, 5G is supposed to be the fifth-generation technology standard for broadband cellular networks, which cellular phone companies began deploying worldwide in the year 2019.
The 5G technology is the planned successor to the 4G networks which provides connectivity to the most current cell phones.Â
Statements made by the Minister
The Union Telecom and Railway Minister also added that the government has thought about and is working on increasing the telecom technology development fund. The fund is to be increased from a sum of Rs. 500 crores per annum, to a total of Rs. 4,000 crores, in order to encourage indigenous innovation, while he was speaking at the CII event.
With the roll-out of 5G across the BSNL network, the public sector firm, compared to the two other big players and a third player, will become a major player in the telecom space and especially for the far-flung areas that would not be served by a typical market mechanism, he added.
BSNL asks for equipment
BSNL has asked Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), in the context, to offer equipment for the 5G testing, so as to enable the telecom firm to start the trials for 5G services.
It has to be noted that Tata Consultancy Services is an Indian multinational information technology services and consulting company, that has its headquarters based in Mumbai.
It is a part of the Tata Group and operates in 150 locations across 46 countries.
In July 2022, it was reported that TCS had over 600,000 employees worldwide.
