The Calcutta High Court’s bench of a single judge, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay directed the state government to arrange for his immediate replacement. The judge also asked Manik Bhattacharya to be present in person in court on Tuesday.
The Calcutta High Court has authorized an immediate replacement of the current president of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) Manik Bhattacharya due to his alleged connection with the discrepancies in the teacher recruitment process for the Government primary schools.
It was also directed by the single-judge bench of Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay and the bench asked Bhattacharya to be present in person in the court on Tuesday. The state government was ordered by the bench to immediately arrange for his dismissal. It was also stated by the judge that during the interim period, all the responsibilities of the position will be handled by the secretary of WBBPE Ratna Chakraborty Bagchi.
Justice Gangopadhyayalso authorized a CBI investigation into the alleged discrepancies in the recruitment process of primary teachers that was carried out by the WBBPW in the year of 2014.
The bench has also rendered for immediate cancellation of assigned appointments of 269 candidates for the required posts. Justice Gangopadhyay brought in modifications to his earlier order two days ago and asked for a Special Investigation Team(SIT)Â to be arranged for conducting a detailed investigation into the primary teacher. He asked that the SIT members should not be transferred or assigned with other cases till the complete conduction of the detailed investigation.
The CBI submitted the names of the six members of SIT to the Calcutta High Court. The agency also submitted its first detailed documentation report on the status of the investigation of this case on that very day.
Manik Bhattacharya has previously been present during the interrogation carried out by the CBI over his alleged connection in the case. The West Bengal government has challenged the order given out by Justice Gangopadhyay for CBI inquiry by approaching a division bench, headed by Justice Subrata Talukdar.
