Indian national team captain Rohit Sharma is back on track after recovering from COVID-19 and will now be available for the white-ball series against England in Southampton on July 7.
Indian skipper and captain Rohit Sharma is out of the isolation ward finally and will now be available for the first T20I of the three-match series against England.
He was ruled out of the ongoing 5th Test against England at Edgbaston after testing positive for the COVID virus.
“Rohit has tested negative and, as per medical protocols, is now out of quarantine.
However, he is not playing today’s T20 warm-up game against Northamptonshire as he will need some recovery time and training ahead of the first T20I,” a senior BCCI official said.
The opener eventually lost his place in the rescheduled 5th Test match between India and England after testing COVID positive in a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).
Pace ace Jasprit Bumrah was appointed the captain of the Indian team for the Test series decider in Birmingham. According to the latest events, Rohit has recovered from COVID-19, and the Indian captain has also been discharged from isolation.
The one-off Test that is now being played at Edgbaston was initially a part of India’s red-ball tour of England last year.
The match had to be postponed due to COVID wreaking havoc throughout many parts of Britain, and the ECB and BCCI mutually decided that the final Test match would be played when India visits England for their white-ball tour in 2022.
However, Rohit needs to undergo mandatory cardiovascular tests to check his lung capacity after getting out of the isolation ward and would need to go through the fitness test post-COVID-19, as per medical protocol.
While Virat Kohli, Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja, who are all members of Test XI, will only team up before the second T20I as the BCCI named two different squads for the three-match series to give the red-ball regulars a break, Rohit will now be available for all six white-ball matches that come after.
On Sunday, the 35-year-old was spotted getting ready for the white-ball series against England.
In the lead-up to the T20I series opener between India and hosts England, the white-ball maverick enjoyed a fruitful net session at the Team India camp.
