NATIONAL FOOD DAY HISTORY
In 1971, Sir, Michael F. Jacobson, chemists, and meteorologists along with two scientists founded CSPI, Centre for Science and Public Interest. At first, its focus was on renewable sources of energy & environmental protection. Later on, when two of its members left the organization, it was focused on food safety. Many campaigns against trans fats were organized by CSPI in fast foods. The organization lasted only about two years and then it was restored in 2011 again by CSPI.
FUNCTIONS OF CSPI
In 1971, CSPI was founded. In 1975, published white papers on infant food products and practices.
National Food day is created to provide awareness of Food and nutrition practices.
It was the first organization to bring awareness about large amounts of popcorn, which contains saturated fats in theaters.
Its main function lies in checking the restaurants, and whether they are providing nutritious food to their customers.
In 1989, awareness against trans-fat was brought and it also led to minimizing animal fat.
