The Center recommended that samples from all Covid positive cases be forwarded daily to INSACOG genome sequencing labs that are linked with all states and Union Territories to prevent COVID Explosion in India
India is on high alert following a recent COVID outbreak in China. The government is implementing the preliminary procedures that the Center has outlined, which include accelerating genome sequencing to keep an eye out for a new mutation.
Covid Explosion in China
After easing its Covid-19 restrictions earlier this month in response to a wave of complaints from citizens tired of severe lockdowns, mass testing, and quarantines, China is now seeing a sharp increase in coronavirus cases. According to a press release, China announced two deaths on December 19, the first confirmed fatalities after the government relaxed pandemic restrictions and abandoned its zero-Covid policy.
In a Twitter thread, US-based epidemiologist and health economist Eric Feigl-Ding predicted that during the next 90 days, more than 60 of China and 10 of the global population are likely to contract the disease, with millions of inevitable fatalities. Feigl-Ding described the current state of affairs in China as thermonuclear bad, adding that the Chinese Communist Party CCP objective is to let whoever needs to be infected, infected, and let whoever needs to die, die.
Overrun Hospitals and crematoriums in China
On social media, there are several articles and videos claiming that hospitals in Beijing are overrun by coronavirus infections due to the unexpected surge. According to reports, employees at funeral homes and crematoriums are working longer hours to deal with the increase in Covid fatalities.
Early in the month, in response to the protests, the Chinese government made a number of sudden changes and dismantled much of the lockdown, testing, and quarantine regimes that had been in place for the previous three years to contain even minor outbreaks of the virus. Early in December, the Beijing Emergency Medical Center advised patients to only call for ambulances if they were critically ill, stating the increase in emergency requests from an average of about 5,000 per day to 30,000 per day, taxing the paramedics’ ability to perform their jobs.
India’s Latest Virus Variant Tracking Initiative
In a letter to states and UTs, Rajesh Bhushan, Union Secretary for Health, reiterated that the responsible authorities should speed up the genome sequencing procedure for all Covid positive results as a result of the unexpected increase in Covid cases in nations such as Japan, the United States of America, Republic of Korea, Brazil, and China, a potential fourth wave of the Covid pandemic is on the way.
The Center recommended that samples from all Covid positive cases be forwarded daily to INSACOG genome sequencing labs that are linked with all states and Union Territories.
He alluded to the operating instructions for the updated surveillance plan in light of COVID-19, which were released by the ministry in June of this year. It encourages early detection, isolation, testing, and prompt care of suspected and confirmed patients in order to find and stop the spread of novel SARS-CoV-2 variants.
Mansukh Mandaviya, the union minister for health, will assess the Covid-19 issue in India with senior authorities and specialists, according to reports.
According to data from the Union Health Ministry, there have been 112 new infections throughout the nation during the last day, down from Monday’s 181, and there are currently 3,490 active cases. In the past 24 hours, two deaths from Kerala and one from Maharashtra have been reconciled, bringing the death toll to 5,30,677
According to the US State Department, the increase is now a topic of concern on a global scale. We are aware that the virus has the ability to evolve at any moment it is in the wild, that it is spreading, and that it poses a hazard to people everywhere, according to State Department spokesman Ned Price. Given the scale of China’s GDP (gross domestic product) and economy, he continued, “the number of casualties of the virus is of concern to the rest of the globe.”
