As he extended greetings on International Labour Day to the international community, M.K. Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, said on Sunday that his DMK government is committed to the advancement of the workforce.
In a speech given at a public event to mark the occasion, he stated that his government was not only extending greetings to the labor force, but was also working to improve their conditions.
It was stated by the Chief Minister that the DMK government had provided free electricity to 1 lakh farmers in the state, which he claimed was the first time such a provision had been made in Tamil Nadu’s history.
The DMK government started to make hand-pulled rickshaws into cycle rickshaws, he said. His government would never allow the working class to be exploited in any way.
Furthermore, Stalin stated that the labor force is the single most important contributor to the economy of his country and the world, and that governments must ensure that they have excellent working conditions as well as financial stability.
“The government of Tamil Nadu under my leadership is very concerned about the well-being of the workers,” he said. “We will do everything we can to make sure the workers get the help they need.”
Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin, also known as M.K. Stalin, was born on March 1, 1953, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, as the third son of Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi, a prominent Dravidian leader and five-time chief minister of Tamil Nadu, and his second wife, Dhayalu Ammal.
His legislative career began in 1989, when he was elected to the Thousand Lights constituency as a Member of the Legislative Assembly. In 1996, he was elected Mayor of the City of Chennai. In 2009, he was appointed as the state’s deputy chief minister, while his father, M. Karunanidhi, served as the state’s chief minister. When Stalin’s father, then-DMK chief Karunanidhi, was not feeling well in 2017, he was appointed as the working president of the Dravid Munetra Kazhgam. He was elected president of the DMK by the party’s general council in 2018.
