Lad stated that Virat Kohli’s match-winning effort against Pakistan was the greatest T20 innings he has ever witnessed.
Lad wants his ward to play on the wicket more often. The Indian captain was dismissed for four runs against Pakistan on Sunday and managed just 14 against Australia in a T20 World Cup warm-up game. “Yes, he has been playing a risky game for a while now when he shouldn’t. I’m not sure why he’s acting that way. In my opinion, he is playing the game too aggressively”, Lad told PTI in an interview, on Wednesday.
Rohit should look to stay on the crease for a longer period
The coach said he ought to stay at the wicket longer and not lose it, in my opinion. He shouldn’t take chances during the first six overs of the powerplay, in my opinion. He ought to engage in his typical and natural game. Every game he plays, he should strive to play 17 to 18 overs and score between 70 and 80 runs, the coach added. The coach stated that Rohit’s approach in T20 cricket needs to change, particularly in the currently-playing championship.
As his coach, I would want to see him as an anchor rather than a destroyer who engages in high-risk activities. He will play lengthy and valuable innings if he remains on the wicket for some time, he(the coach) added.

“He plays too much in the air, perhaps because T20 cricket requires it at times. But I would advise him to use restrained aggression”, he said. Further, he added that he will succeed in every game if he reduces his dangerous shots.
Lad recalled their final discussion, saying, he spoke to him last before he left for the World Cup. As he has played so much cricket for India, they did not speak much about technique.
Coach Dinesh Lad had told him to play responsibly and remain in the crease. Lad further always urges him(Rohit) to take the initiative and do his part to help India win. However, he is wasting his wickets, therefore he is not getting the opportunity. Rohit often receives criticism for playing hasty shots on occasion and getting out cheaply.

It’s hard to discuss technique in T20 cricket. He should love the game more and play and captain well for his country. Rohit Sharma, my ward, is leading India at the T20 World Cup. I want him to win the World Cup on his debut as a captain like India did in 2007, the coach expressed his desire.
