On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India is committed to serving the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable people by developing next-generation infrastructure to help them achieve their goals.
PM Modi remarked in a video message at the opening session of the fourth edition of the International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure that the Sustainable Development Goals’ solemn vow is to leave no one behind. According to the Prime Minister, infrastructure is about people and providing them with high-quality, dependable, and long-term services in an equitable way. “Any infrastructure growth story must put people at the centre.” And that is precisely what India is doing,” he remarked.
Plans
According to the Prime Minister Modi, work should be done toward a “Resilient Infrastructure Transition” to make future infrastructure more resilient. Resilient infrastructure can also serve as the centrepiece of our more significant adaptation initiatives. “We safeguard ourselves and several future generations by making infrastructure robust,” he concluded.
At the ceremony, Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Madagascar’s President Andry Nirina Rajoelina spoke as well.
According to the Prime Minister, India is increasing the supply of essential services in education, health, drinking water, sanitation, power, transportation, and other sectors.
“We’re also undertaking a transformational approach to climate change,” he said. “As a consequence, we vowed at COP-26 to reach ‘Net Zero’ by 2070, in combination with our development plans.”
The Prime Minister emphasised the significance of infrastructure in realising human potential, stating that infrastructure destruction has long-term consequences for future generations. The prime minister asked, “With the existing technology and knowledge at our disposal, can we develop resilient infrastructure that will last?” He stated that the CDRI (Coalition of Disaster Resilient Infrastructure) was formed in response to this issue.
He also mentioned how the alliance has grown and made significant achievements. He said the COP-26 initiative on ‘Infrastructure for the Resilient Island States’ and CDRI’s work on Resilient Airports, which examined 150 airports worldwide.
The CDRI-led ‘Global Assessment of Disaster Resilience of Infrastructure Systems,’ according to PM Modi, will contribute to the establishment of significant global knowledge.
He also briefed the public that the solemn promise of the Sustainable Development Goals is to leave no one behind.
The ICDRI is held in New Delhi from May 4 to 6, in both offline and online formats, in conjunction with the US government.
