Three sitting councilors exited the Congress Party days before Punjab voted on February 20; Charges were filed against Arvind Kejriwal on Kumar Vishwas’s statement.
With Ashwini Kumar’s statement predicting the win of the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab over the Congress Party in the upcoming Punjab Assembly Elections was followed by another significant setback with the loss of three sitting Congress Councilors to AAP in the presence of Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on February 17.
This news came a day after Karamjit Singh Rintu, Mayor of Amritsar, joined AAP in Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and CM candidate for Punjab Bhagwant Maan. Karamjit Singh Rintu allegedly mentioned that he was feeling “suffocated” in Congress and that leaving was perhaps the best option to preserve his “self – dignity.”
It was the second shock that Congress had to bear days before the Election after Senior leader of Congress Ashwini Kumar had left the party on Tuesday.
On the flip side, Congress leader Sandeep Dixit filed a complaint against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, citing an interview with Kumar Vishwas where the former AAP leader had talked about a conversation with Mr. Kejriwal where he had disregarded the concern raised by the AAP leader. The complaint mentioned that this revealed that the CM was in touch with Khalistan Separatists for the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Elections.
Moving on, the complaint said that the CM had mentioned that he would happily become the Prime Minister of the independent state of Khalistan. The complaint noted that the statement was made to spread fear and terror in public. A charge of sedition was therefore filed as a result of this interview.
This interview has perhaps unfolded a sea of allegations against the Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. Punjab CM Channi commented that this was probably the real intention of the AAP party for the state all along. He further tweeted that Congress Party always stood for and will continue maintaining peace in Punjab.
The AAP spokesperson Raghav Chadha refuted Mr. Vishwas’s statement by saying that the video was “forged and fabricated,” The video was published only to defame the Delhi CM.
He questioned Kumar Vishwas on why he was silent for so long and accused BJP and Congress of defaming an honest man and branding him as a “terrorist” and “naxalwadi” during the last Delhi elections. Mr. Chadha even went on to warn the media houses of legal action in charge of aiding and abetting him if they continue to pursue this story further.
In this regard, Punjab is set to go for its election on February 20, and the results will be counted on10. Further details are still awaited.
