Smiles try to cover up the disunity that Congress leaders appeared for a brief press conference; Complaint against CM Channi for violating MOD
With just a day left before Punjab goes for its state Assembly Elections on February 20, all parties have wrapped up their election campaigns.
Complaints were filed against CM Channi and Subhdeep Singh for allegedly being involved in a door-to-door campaign in the Mansa Assembly after Friday’s end of campaigns across the state. The complaint was filed under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code for violating the Model Code of Conduct.Â
In this regard, sub-divisional magistrate Harjinder Singh had commented that he had reached the spot as soon as he came to know that CM Channi was continuing the campaigns in Mansa.
By then, the CM had already left the stop, but upon further inquiry with the natives, he got to know that the CM had visited the temple and offered his prayers, and no campaign was conducted there.
Further, Mr. Singh said they would check Flying Surveillance Teams (FST) and videos to confirm the case. Quoting the case Kamal Goyal, an AAP functionary, urged the Election Commission to take serious action against CM Channi to violate the Model Code of Conduct. Â
With senior leaders such as Ashwini Kumar, Amritsar’s councilor, etc., leaving the party days before Punjab elections, doubts have been raised in other people’s minds.
In this regard, CM Channi, Navjot Singh Sidhu, and senior leader Sunil Jakhar had appeared for a brief interview on the last day of campaigning to show the party’s strength. But their smiles showed their lack of unity within the party itself.Â
Moving forward, Congress’s delay in presenting its manifesto has been a talking issue in political circles.
The manifesto promises to eradicate the “mafia raj” in the sand, liquor, and cable industries, provide Rs 1,100 in financial aid to women, eight unrestrained cooking gas cylinders per year to homemakers, and create one lakh government employment.
With the release of the Congress manifesto Sidhu’s “Punjab Model” was also included in it as the manifesto wanted to bring all the leaders on the same page. Â
Keeping this in mind, Punjab assembly polls will start in a few hours, and the votes will be counted on March 10. Further details are still awaited.
