Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has stated that his party is not interested in power or the position of Prime Minister. Aiming at the BJP, he claimed that the party’s president and other leaders are “running from state to state” to re-establish ties with old allies. He stated during the gathering that there are 26 parties in government in 11 states; the BJP did not get 303 seats by itself; it used allies’ votes and then discarded them.
According to sources, I – N – D – I – A (Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance) is one of the names being explored for the Opposition front. However, left-wing parties have asked for a rethinking of the term “alliance.”
Last night, the leaders assembled in Bengaluru had a dinner discussion to finalise the agenda for Tuesday’s closed-door negotiations. According to sources, Sonia Gandhi, the former chairwoman of the UPA, could be named President of the Front, with Nitish Kumar as Convenor.

Among those attending the two-day meeting are Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, chief ministers MK Stalin, Nitish Kumar, Arvind Kejriwal, Hemant Soren, Mamata Banerjee, and RJD chairman Lalu Prasad. Mamata Banerjee and Sonia Gandhi sat next to each other during yesterday night’s dinner meeting at the Taj West End Hotel. According to insiders, they had a one-on-one talk earlier that lasted about 20 minutes, delaying the start of the meeting.
While the two leaders are known to get along well, ties between the Congress and Ms Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress have recently worsened. However, both parties have moved on, acknowledging that removing the BJP government next year is a top priority for preserving democracy and federalism.
The Congress is hosting the meeting at a well-selected location. The Congress’s triumph in the recent Karnataka assembly election not only energised the opposition but also put the party in leadership.
The Congress, meanwhile, has kept a quiet profile under Mallikarjun Kharge’s leadership, stating repeatedly that it wishes to listen to the perspectives of other leaders. Its support for Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party in challenging the Central Ordinance in parliament demonstrates its desire to work as part of a team.
When asked if its former ally HD Kumaraswamy’s Janata Dal-Secular will be there, senior Congress leader Pawan Khera remarked that all parties with the will and guts to fight the BJP were welcomed. He further said that The opposition will increase from 16 in Patna to 26 in Bengaluru. There would be many more gatherings. They would discuss issues first, and leaders would be discussed later.
