On the one hand, the World Health Organization declared the estimation of COVID-19 deaths in India to be 47 lakhs, and on the other hand, the Indian government claims WHO’s data is incorrect and says the actual figure is nearly five lakhs.
Just after that, the Congress and Communist Party of India slammed the BJP government for lying about the death figures.
A lot belonging to the Congress party stood up against the BJP government, including the former party president, Mr. Rahul Gandhi. He raised his voice and accused the government of underreporting the COVID deaths in order to avoid paying compensation to the families of the deceased.
Citing Mr. Rahul Gandhi, “47 lakh Indians died due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Not 4 lakhs as claimed by the government. Science doesn’t lie, but Modi does. Respect families who’ve lost loved ones. Support them with the mandated Rs. 4 lakh compensation. ”
In support of Mr. Rahul Gandhi, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra mentioned how the BJP government manipulates the data for their own reputation even when people were literally begging for oxygen and medicine. Priyanka said, “During the COVID-19 tragedy when crores of people were pleading for oxygen, medicine, and hospital beds for their families, the whole emphasis of the government was on the juggling of figures. The countrymen should know what is the truth after all.”
Furthermore, congress representative Gourav Vallabh added that the Modi government has let India down on the world stage. At a press conference at the AICC headquarters, he affirmed that the COVID commission is very much past due and asked when the BJP government will pay the COVID compensation.
Citing Vallabh, “The mismanagement of the COVID pandemic by the BJP government is not hidden from anyone. The apathetic attitude has been evident all along. The nation saw people gasping for oxygen during the second wave. The world saw the Modi management style when thousands of bodies were floating in the Ganga.”
While addressing all the queries by the Opposition parties, BJP’s national spokesperson Mr. Sambit Patra reverted at a press conference and issued a strong objection to the WHO numbers, questioning the legitimacy and vigor of the models utilized and the philosophy of Data Collection are sketchy.
Quoting Mr. Sambit Patra, “Rahul has repeatedly tried to sully Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s image since 2014 and the process has harmed India’s image. India has a proper mechanism for the registration of birth and death. The WHO’s data and the Congress’ beta (meaning son) are wrong”
