On the occasion of Vaikunta Ekadesi, devotees to Thirumala are expected to wear masks and follow  COVID protocols during Vaikunta Dwara Dharsan.
COVID precautions are back & it seems to be everywhere and Thirumala is not an exemption. Lord Venkateshwara, despite being one of the wealthiest gods in the world, COVID doesn’t spare Him and His devotees.
Lord Venkateshwara, the presiding deity at Tirumala is considered the family God to many. Despite the cultural differences, south Indians unite in huge number at Thirumala to pay respect to the lord and make huge offerings which makes the temple the second highest footfall in India, next to Varanasi.
One cannot forget the deserted look Thirumala wore during Lockdown 1.0. As there is emerge of new Variant B4. 7 in INDIA, to avoid the surge of cases in Thirumala, devotees are supposed to follow SOP’s again during darshan and wearing masks is mandatory, the TTD (Thirumala Thirupathi Devastanam) Board said.
Koil Azhwar Thirumanjanam- Gearing up for Vaikunta Dwaram
In the wake of Vaikunta Dwara Dharsan, every year, the entire temple will be cleansed and it is observed as a holy ritual named Koil Azhwar Thirumanjanam & this year, the ritual commenced on December 27th Tuesday at 7a.m and went on about five hours.
The temple, including Sanctum Sanctorum, sub temples, roofs and walls was thoroughly cleansed and finally smeared with the holy ‘parimalam’ under the supervision of TTD board members.
Thirumala Vaikunta Dwara Dharshan 2024:
According to Hindu Calendar, Vaikunta Ekadesi & Vaikunta Dwadasi thithi are considered the most auspicious days by devotees to visit Vaishnava temples and it is a huge celebration in Thirumala, the biggest of all Vaishnava temples in the world.
Vaikunta Ekadesi is given much importance in Thirumala as it is considered one of the highest annual celebrations, where the doors ‘Vaikunta Dwaram’ inside the Thirumala temple will be open for the devotees to walk through for a period of ten days.
This year, the festival begins on January 2nd and goes on till January 11th. TTD Executive officer Anil Kumar Singhal told the reporters that the best of arrangements were being made to facilitate devotees for Vaikunta Dwara Dharshan.
He further added that it was the board’s decision to extend Dwara dharshan from 2 days to 10 days so that more devotees could walk through the door and pay respect to Lord Balaji. Around eight lakh devotees are expected to pay visit during the festivities, he said.
How to appear for Vaikunta Dwara Dharsan:
TTD board in its official website TTD seva online asked devotees to visit Thirumala for Vaikunta Dwara Dharsan only after getting tokens and to join the queues at the allotted time.
The board also announced that the tokens will be issued from 1st of January and devotees are expected to appear in tradional attire for dharshan.
It also said that the doors ‘Vaikunta Dwara’ will be open for devotees from 3 a.m. to 12 a.m. on all ten days.
