The Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Sign Mann, imposed a curfew in Patiala after clashes broke out in the district between two groups.Â
On Friday, two groups attacked each other near Kali Devi Mandir in Patiala, Punjab. The Chief Minister, of the state has ordered a huge police deployment to maintain the law-and-order situation. The police officials state that the situation was so tense that the police department had to fire into the air to bring the mob under control.Â
The reports suggest that some of the people in the mob threw stones at each other. Furthermore, some of the people in the mob were carrying brandished swords too. During the incident, two people were majorly injured. The clash broke out between the two groups when one of the groups, namely Shiv Sena, was carrying out an “anti-Khalistan march” near Kali Mata Mandir.Â
Later, some of the Sikh activists, including Nihangs, replied to the Shiv Sena’s “anti-Khalistan March” by conducting another march against the Sena. Later, around 9 p.m. on the same day, Punjab Police arrested Shiv Sena chief in Punjab, Harish Singla.Â
Latest developments after the violence broke out in PatialaÂ
Following the clashes, the CM of Punjab, Shri Bhagwant Singh Mann, has decided to impose a curfew in the area between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.Â
The officials in Punjab acted promptly on the situation, and due to heavy police deployment, the officials were able to maintain law and order. Patiala inspector general, Rakesh Agarwal, said that the situation is totally under control now. He further stated, “We have called for force from outside. A peace committee meeting has been called by the Deputy Commissioner. “Â
The Chief Minister of Punjab has stated the clashes were “deeply unfortunate”. He said, “The incident of clashes in Patiala is deeply unfortunate. I have spoken to the DGP; peace has been restored in the area. We are closely monitoring the situation and will not let anyone create a disturbance in the state. “Â
The march constituted slogans of “Khalistan Murdabad.”Â
The march was organised by the Shiv Sena leader in Punjab, Harish Singla. The march was termed the “Khalistan Murdabad March”. It started from Arya Samaj Chowk. During the procession, Harish Singla stated, “Gur Patwant Pannun of the Sikhs for Justice had announced that they would observe April 29 as the “foundation day of Khalistan”. Thus, we need to answer them, and henceforth, the Sena has initiated the “Khalistan Murdabad March.”Â
