The posthumous Pulitzer Prize in 2022 was awarded to Danish film journalist Danish Siddiqui.This is the second time he has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize. He was a photojournalist for the Reuters news agency. He was given this honor for covering the Corona weather in India. Earlier, in 2016, Danish and Adnan Abidi received the Pulitzer Prize for being the first Indians to present a picture of the Rohingya refugee crisis to the world. Danish was killed on July 17, 2021, while reporting on a clash between Afghan forces and the Taliban in Kandahar.
Apart from Danish, Adnan Abidi, Sanna Irshad Mattoo and Amit Dave have also been awarded Pulitzer Prizes this year for their outstanding contributions to the coveted atmosphere. This is Adnan’s second Pulitzer Prize. The Pulitzer Prize is awarded for outstanding contributions to the world of journalism, book writing, drama and music.
Siddiqui holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi. He earned a degree in Mass Communication in 2007 from the AJK Mass Communication Research Center in Jamia.
He began his career as a television news reporter, switched to photojournalism, and joined Reuters in 2010 as an intern.
As a photojournalist, Danish Siddiqui has covered a wide range of topics around the world. Some of his major works include the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Rohingya refugee crisis, the protests in Hong Kong, and the earthquake in Nepal.
*Ukrainian journalists were also recognized with special quotes from the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for covering the Russian invasion. The judges also recognized the coverage of the January 6 Capitol attack, the withdrawal from Afghanistan, and the collapse of the Surfside condominium in Florida.
* Marcus Yam of the Los Angeles Times won the award in the Breaking News Photography category for “the raw and urgent picture of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan that captures the humanitarian value of the country’s historic change.”
