Deepika Padukone has amassed a long list of accomplishments since her spectacular Bollywood debut 15 years ago, including a relationship with the legendary fashion house Louis Vuitton, but she refuses to rest on her laurels. In the May cover feature for Vogue India, the actor discusses acting, achievements, and dreams. Deepika Padukone shines as an actor, mental health champion, and soon a beauty entrepreneur. As seen on the cover of the May 2022 issue of Vogue India, Deepika prefers to keep her complexion and makeup modest and natural. Tina Monzón, a makeup artist, embodied the less-is-more philosophy by promoting a radiant and fresh appearance. “We wanted to showcase Deepika’s inherent beauty with only a little of shining makeup,” explains Monzón. In an exclusive conversation with Vogue India, the makeup artist breaks down Deepika Padukone’s cover look and provides must-know beauty techniques.
On the inspiration behind Deepika’s cover look and a beauty breakdown
In order to achieve a radiant and healthy skin texture, we prioritized the luminosity of products when designing the appearance. Then, a fresh, light base was applied to reveal Deepika’s natural complexion and enhance her shine.
Moisturizing the skin is the first and most essential step in achieving a beautiful face. She utilised Guerlain Abeille Royale Day Cream and Guerlain Abeille Royale Bee Glow Youth Moisturizer to get beautiful skin.
The second step is choosing the cosmetics base. She selected the illuminating Guerlain L’ESSENTIEL Natural Glow Foundation 16H Wear SPF 20 and the Guerlain Precious Light Rejuvenating Effect Illuminator. Deepika’s perfect complexion necessitated no concealer. The desired a natural yet gently enhancing eyeshadow formula to showcase the contours of the face, therefore chose colours similar to her skin tone for a gentler impact. Guerlain Palette 5 Couleurs performed admirably. To accentuate the effect, utilised the Guerlain Kohl Brown pencil and Guerlain Cils D’Enfer Maxi Lash So Volume Mascara-01 Black.
She applied Guerlain Terracotta the Bronzing Powder to the cheekbones, forehead, and temples to produce a gentle and fresh tanned appearance.
To lend a flush to the cheeks, Guerlain Cream Blusher was applied.
She applied Guerlain Kiss Kiss Bee Glow Lip Balm to Deepika’s lips due to their beautiful natural hue.
Regarding highlighting Deepika’s skin tone
She utilised fluid products that matched her skin tone and lightweight formulas to avoid a thick or cakey appearance. The art is in skillfully and subtly stacking things.
Regarding the inspiration being Deepika’s hairstyle
Two words: informal and street.
Regarding hacking Deepika’s skin forward makeup
Use luminous creams, as they light the skin without leaving it greasy. In my opinion, it is the foundation of all outstanding makeup.
On crafting the ideal spring makeup
Effectively construct the ideal spring and even summer makeup by applying a cream blush or lipstick with a pinkish hue (yes, lipsticks can be better hybrids in makeup). And the easiest way to apply it is by instinctively running your fingertips across the cheeks until it is completely blended.
Regarding Deepika’s fashion preferences
Deepika’s lone preference was to put a brown pencil around her eyes to create depth and definition, which unquestionably gave her appearance more life.
On the seasonal trend of minimal makeup
Minimal, muted, or fresh makeup–call it what you will, but it has never been out of style and never will be. A lovely, fresh, clean complexion with a coral, pink, or red lip (depending on your own preference) is a timeless classic. It makes you beautiful by enhancing your innate beauty.
During an interview with Vogue’s Faye D’Souza, she discussed the significance of being the only Indian woman on TIME’s ‘100 Most Influential People’ list, as well as her journey as a woman. Deepika explains in 2018, the award was more particularly to recognize my efforts in the mental health area, whereas this time it was to recognize my commitment to the Indian film industry and my acting choices. Mental health is a significant component of my life, but it is not the sole aspect of my existence. The honour felt like a culmination of all the ups and downs I’ve experienced in my career, including the lessons, failures, and accomplishments. At the age of 18, I recall asking myself, “How am I going to break into this industry? How will the journey unfold? Who will I encounter on this journey? Will I achieve success? Will I appreciate my work?” When I received the honour, everything came full circle. I am aware of the disparity between men and women in practically every facet of life, but I have never felt the need to compare. I believe this is because my sister and I were not raised in this manner. We were not continually reminded that we were female, so we had to enter the world with a different mindset and fight for what we deserved. However, I did face additional obstacles. I had a difficult time breaking into Bollywood due of my background in sports. As a result of my South Indian accent, I was first concerned that I would be disregarded.
