Deepika tells the actual motive of her film: Gehraiyaan

This movie is a back story that my character is dealing with  

A lot of things have been picked up by the audience after watching the film. They were not meant to be so much of a talking point, but I think what is interesting is that they have become that organically.

People are picking up these things now that we were conscientious of when making this movie. I don’t think we even imagined that film would be received like that, now having a live experience with mean tell illness was conscious of how it was portrayed, yes,

but it is how the film is. It is just one threat, or it is not even a thread; it’s a back story or something that this character is dealing with in the film.

I am so glad that now the audience is now picking up on these things. There is so much else that is going on that we were focusing on and subconsciously making sure that whether it’s Alicia’s anxiety or the pills that she takes. We should ensure that we have that eye for detail or attention in the little bit that we do. 

At least with shaken, we endeavor to tell the most honest narrative and the most honest story with a sense of newness, freshness and challenging the status quo a little bit.

We always say that film would embrace it, receive, or celebrate like this in India and globally. That was completely unexpected. Yes, from when the first teacher came out, the momentum kept building, and there was so much chatting about this movie, trailer, and music.  

Then taking about the intimacy, infidelity, then oh my god, the girl has our cosines, and there was just so much that was unraveling then the released. Then the kind of conversation that people have today. Doors of the sort that it has opened for people is just beyond, but it is also incredible and unexpected. 

In the film, the intimacy was such a big taking point initially, and then we kept saying that yes, it is an essential thread in the movie but not the only piece in this film.

There is childhood trauma, mental illness, the relationship between father and child, relations between friends; all of these things are there. How they change, how they evolve over a while. 

 I gauss now when people are watching it, they can agree and seeing what we were trying to say that there I just so much more to this movie than just the intimacy. 

The takeaway at the end of the film today is so much more after people have seen the movie and speaking of infidelity in a relationship. Yes, of course, I think the film has touched upon that as well that it is not just a physical attraction.

Different circumstances lead people to do what they do, and sure, we may not agree with these choices, but there is a reason why people do what they do.

I think the point of the film, at some level again not the whole issue but just a tiny part of the point is that we are trying to make if we can be more emphatic and more understanding and significantly less judgmental about the choice that people make.
