The Indian couple was arrested upon their arrival from Vietnam and confessed to previously smuggling 25 guns from Turkey.Ā An Indian married couple was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi for possession of 45 handguns.
The couple from Gurgaon allegedly tried to smuggle 45 handguns. The couple arrived from Vietnam with two trolley bags filled with guns. The customs at IGI airport seized the guns from them on July 13.
Smuggling 45 GunsĀ
The 45 guns were approximately worth Rs. 22.5 lakhs. This was not their first indulgence in trying to smuggle guns. The couple admitted to successfully smuggling 25 pieces of guns in the past. These guns were worth a total of Rs. 12 lakhs.
In a preliminary report,Ā the National Security Guard, the nation’s elite counter-terrorism unit, confirmed that all the guns seized are fully functional. However, the officials sent the guns for Ballistics reports for further confirmation.
Indian Couple Aged
The 41-year-old man with his 32-year-old wife landed in Delhi from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. They were accompanied by an infant, their six-month-old daughter.
According to the customs official, the 41-year-old man was carrying the two trolley bags, handed to him by his older brother who had arrived from Paris, at nearly the same time and date as the couple’s arrival from Vietnam.
After giving the two trolley bags to the younger brother, the older brother snuck out of the Delhi International Airport.Ā
The wife of the younger brother actively participated in the scheme by assisting her husband in removing and destroying the tags from the two trolley bags containing the handguns.
They both were caught in the act during the examination of these two trolley bags. After their arrest, their six-month-old daughter was handed over to her grandmother.
Later, the couple confessed to their previous smuggling of 25 branded handguns from Turkey.Ā The smuggling is worth up to Rs.35 lakhs in total. Further investigation is being conducted.
