To keep pollution under check during this winter, the state government of Delhi has decided to ban the entry of trucks from the 1st of October 2022 to February 2024. The state government of Delhi has informed its neighboring states including Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh to only allow BS- VI compliant buses to enter the city and to keep a check on the pollution level.
New Delhi every year witnesses a huge rise in pollution level mostly during the months of winter. The pollution occurs due to various reasons but mostly due to stubble burning and vehicular traffic. Every year the national capital witnesses a ban on trucks and heavy vehicles for a span of fifteen days. But this time it will stretch over a period of five months.
Reaction From President of All India Motors
Rajendra Kapoor, the President of All India Motors and Goods Transport Association said that a time span of 15 days ban on trucks is acceptable but a five months long ban will affect the transportation system heavily. The government’s revenue will also be affected and which will in turn lead to a hike in the prices of food, vegetables and other essential commodities. He also said, “Why is the ban only for trucks? Why don’t you ban other diesel vehicles in Delhi? If diesel is a prominent pollutant, manufacturing of diesel vehicles should be banned. This is not a solution.”
The various trucks and vehicles associations have opposed this decision taken by the Delhi Government. They are of the view that heavy vehicles will have to bear losses worth in crores.
