On this Sunday, the Delhi Government officially launched a new portal for their internship programme to mark the 4th edition of the Van Mahotsav Ceremony held at the Polo Ground of Delhi University. Inaugurated by Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai, this initiative was organized to engage young environmental enthusiasts to contribute to the social cause of ecology and wildlife.
The interested students can apply for this internship on the website, internship.eforest.delhi.gov.in, under the Department of Forest and Wildlife. Through this platform, students will be able to understand the intricacies of forest and wildlife issues. Also, they will be able to expose themselves to the new technology and techniques of management and become aware of green jobs.
Green Internship: Participating in the Environment
The principal aim of this internship is to provide short-term exposure to youth in the different sectors of the Department of Forest and Wildlife. The tenure of this internship is not specified, as it can vary according to the allotted domain, but it will not extend for more than 90 days of the internship period.
Students who are enrolled in recognized schools, institutions, and universities can apply for this internship. They must be equal to or more than 18 years old. It’s advised that a clear statement of purpose be attached with your following documents, as it will give you more preference in comparison to other applicants. The SOP should not be more than 1000 words.
To become eligible for this position, students must be pursuing Science, Forestry, Ecology, Computer Science, Electronic engineering, and other related courses. They should be in their second year or above for this internship. Other than that, students who are pursuing commerce, economics, and management courses are also eligible for this role. Students who are pursuing law and are in their second or third year can also opt for this internship. Along with them, students from higher secondary classes pursuing science and commerce streams can also try for this internship.
The students can apply for a maximum of three disciplines in accordance with their interests. There are no stipends available for this internship, but the interns at the end of the internship will be successfully awarded a certificate along with grades on their performance. There are 10 domains that students can select in accordance with their interests and preferences.
Focal Point of Van Mahotsav in Delhi
The minister underscores the importance of tree plantation as he highlights that under AAP leadership, in these three years, 1 crore and 18 lakh saplings were planted, keeping up with the target of planting 2 crore plants in five years.
Mr. Rai also exhorted students to take part in the internship programme to contribute further to the environment with the government.
“While the level of pollution is increasing in all the cities of the country, Delhi is the first city in the country under the leadership of Kejriwal ji where development is increasing but pollution is decreasing. In the last 8 years, Delhi’s pollution has reduced by about 30%,” Mr. Rai highlighted in his tweet.
The Van Mahotsav drive started on July 9 and has till now initiated various events and a plantation drive on every Sunday across Delhi’s 7 Lok Sabha constituencies. Three more such drives will be organized in the coming weeks.
