Delhi is known for its extreme climate. Delhi’s Air Quality has decreased in recent times. Of its extreme heat and extreme cold, Delhiās weather has caused aĀ sense of discomfort for the residents of Delhi. Recently, Delhi has been undergoing a major crisis of air pollution which has led to the ban on firecrackers.
Delhiās air quality
Now, Delhiās air pollution has weakened so much that the people living there have been banned from any activities such as construction, demolition, or any activity related to national security, defense, railways, metro rail, and many other related works.
As air pollution has weakened, the authorities of Delhi (the center for pollution control, Delhi) have advised the state to immediately put a hold on all activities related to construction. The order was given by the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to the National Capital Region (NCR) on an immediate basis on Saturday. The ban is put temporarily to manage the air pollution and put a major control on the same.
As per the sources from Air Quality Management (CAQM), they have imposed strict restrictions on the movements of BS III petrol and BS IV diesel and 4-wheelers in the NCR region of Delhi due to major air pollution issues in the capital city of India.
Air quality of Delhi
Since January 2022, Delhi’s air quality index has worsened. As of Saturday at 4 pm, the air quality index (calculated on 24 hours basis), stood at 397 (which is worst for any state). On Thursday, the air quality index stood at 354 (which was a sign that the air quality was slowly getting worse). On Wednesday, Tuesday, and Monday (on the day of Diwali), the air quality was 271,302 and 312 respectively.
GRAP (the board for measuring the air quality in a city or a nation) measures air quality in 4 stages. Stage I is considered āpoorā (AQ- 201 to 300), stage II is āvery poorā(AQ 301 to 400), stage 3 ā is āsevereā (AQI-401-450), and stage IV- is āsevere pus( AQ>450).
Instructions issued to the people of Delhi
As Delhi is under stage III, Delhi people have been banned from any type of construction, or demolition (especially in the NCR region). Any activity of national importance such as railways, metro, airports, ISBTs, or national security/defense-related projects does not fall under the restriction imposed by the GRAP
In the NCR region, hot mix plants (which are not operational on clean files, mining activities), brick kilns, and stone crushers have been banned completely as of now. As the capital city is facing major pollution issues, Delhi NCR has imposed strict restrictions on BS III petrol and BS IV diesel for 4-wheelers under stage III< added CAQM.
Also, keeping this in mind even firecrackers were banned in Delhi, this Diwali to maintain Delhi’s air quality.
Further, institutions will be given by the pollution control board.
