When asked what Chennai Super Kings did to get back on track after handing back the captaincy to the veteran, MS Dhoni summed up the scenario as ‘nothing unusual.’ After eight games, Dhoni was reassigned to the captaincy, and CSK responded with a win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Pune on Sunday (May 1).
Dhoni informed host network Star Sports at the post-match presentation ceremony that the triumph was set up by the openers, who put on 182 for the first wicket.

“You always say the same thing when you’re in the same dressing room. It’s not like when the captain changes, everything changes.
You know, it’s one of those coincidences where we got off to a good start, made the most of a good wicket, forced the bowlers to bowl in areas where we wanted to hit, so I think the target we got was a good one, and then we needed some very good bowling because a little dew came later and made it slightly difficult.”
Dhoni also claimed that he only offered to assist Ravindra Jadeja at the beginning of the season in order to smooth the leadership transition and allow Jadeja to learn the profession on his own.
“Jadeja and I decided last season that he will be given the opportunity to captain this year,” Dhoni said. As a result, he was fully aware of the situation and had ample opportunity to prepare. What matters is that you want him to be the captain of the squad.
I wanted that transition to happen, so I gave Jaddu a little more information in the first and second games, but I left it to him after that because you don’t want him to feel like the captaincy was taken away from him, and I was simply going for the toss at the end of 5-6 games or the full season.
“So it was a steady process where I said, “OK, this is what I’m going to do; for the first game, I’m going to take care of the fielding angles, and then you have to decide,” because that’s the only way you’ll learn what captaincy is.
It’s no good spoon-feeding the captain; you have to make those vital judgments on the field and accept responsibility for them.”
