Maia Kealoha, who is a newcomer, has been cast as Lilo in ‘Lilo and Stitch’. The actress is from Hawaii, where this movie is set.
Disney’s 2000 animated movie ‘Lilo and Stitch’ gets a newcomer actress for its live-action. Maia Kealoha is the latest addition in the cast.
Stitch will be a CG confection, and Zach Galifianakis joined the cast, although his role has not been revealed. The movie, which is slated to have a major release on Disney+, is directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, the indie director and Oscar nominee for best-animated feature ‘Marcel the Shell With Shoes On’.
Kealoha’s casting is comparable to that of Moana, a 2016 movie released by the studio itself with a strong Polynesian focus, in which Auli’i Cravalho, a Hawaii-born actor whose debut work was to voice the main character, Moana, from the made-up island of Motunui.
Lilo and Stitch: Live-Action
The live-action film has been in planning and development for five years. The adaptation’s script was written by Christopher Kekaniokalani Bright. The original film was written and directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, and despite its initial failure, it gained a devoted following that has only gotten stronger over time.
Rideback’s Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are in charge of production. Ryan Halprin, who was in Rideback, is executive producing.
Production had been scheduled to start in Hawaii in February, but it has now been delayed because of the massive VFX for all the alien creatures. Auli’i Cravalho, who played Moana in ‘Moana’, had discussions with studio about playing Lilo’s sister, Nani, at one point, but she declined to participate because of her obligations to ‘Mean Girls: The Musical’. As Cravalho wraps up filming Mean Girls, Disney might revisit Cravalho, but that is unknown. Also, we learned that Chris Sanders might do Stitch’s voice once more.
Lilo and Stitch: The Original Movie
Lilo and Stitch is an animated movie released on June 21, 2002, by Walt Disney Pictures. The movie was written and directed by the duo of Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois. At the 75th Academy Awards, it received a nomination for Best Animated Feature.
The story of the movie centers on two people: Lilo Pelekai, a Hawaiian girl who is raised by her elder sister Nani after their parents pass away, and Project 626, a space alien who is taken in by Lilo and given the name “Stitch.” Stitch, who was genetically modified to sow havoc and ruin, first uses Lilo to evade capture by the cosmic federation. However, as their relationship deepens, Stitch changes his mind about his destructive intentions in order to preserve his newfound family when Lilo and Stitch start to bond. The concept of ‘Ohana’, or family, is shown in this movie.
After the release of this movie, the fan following started to grow. The studio released three direct-to-video sequels,
- Stitch! The Movie
- Three television series, including the sequel series
- Lilo & Stitch: The Series
- Spin-offs Stitch!
- Stitch & Ai
The movie’s success made it one of the studio’s few successes during its post-animation Renaissance era in the 2000s. Now, the live-action film is under development.
The characters are voiced by-
- Daveigh Chase- Lilo Pelekai
