Donald Trump, a former president of the United States, referred to the FBI as “political hacks and thugs” and criticized the Justice Department after learning that a heavily redacted version of the affidavit that was submitted to the judge in order to obtain permission to search his Mar-a-Lago home had been made public.
According to the affidavit, the search was carried out after the FBI questioned witnesses and discovered “probable cause” to believe that the property may have included documents revealing “national security information.”
“There is reason to suspect that further records that are presidential records subject to record retention requirements or that include classified NDI are now present at the premises. There is additional reason to suspect that obstruction evidence will be discovered, the statement stated, according to AFP.
Several sources claim that during the August 8 raid on Trump’s Florida home, the FBI found more than a hundred documents. Trump complained about the procedure when the affidavit was made public, despite his repeated requests for officials to be more open.
Due to the ongoing legal procedures against Trump, a significant portion of the affidavit was blacked, but it made a strong indication that the former president might have had proof of obstruction of justice in his possession.
Trump strongly criticised US Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart for approving the raid and implied that the judge’s “animosity and hatred” for Trump played a role in the decision. The affidavit, according to him, is “a pure public relations ruse by the FBI & DOJ.”
The political hacks and thugs had no right, according to the Presidential Records Act, to assault Mar-a-Lago and grab anything they could find, Trump tweeted on his social media accounts.
