- Both players were injured during the third T20 I against the West Indies.
- T20 against Sri-Lanka will begin from 24th February.
Before the 3 T20 series against Sri Lanka begins on Thursday, Rohit Sharma’s team has been dealt a double blow (February 24). India will also be without top striker Suryakumar Yadav for the T20 series after the injury to all-rounder Deepak Chahar.
Yadav, who scored 107 runs in India’s recent T20 series against the Windies, including a top-score of 65 in the last game in Kolkata on Sunday, was observed at the country’s training session in Lucknow on Tuesday (February 22). A 31-year-old batsman has been declared unfit for the white-ball game due to a hairline fracture in his hand, according to the BCCI.
“Deepak Chahar, the pace bowler, and Suryakumar Yadav, the batsman, have now been ruled out from the next Three-match t20i against Sri Lanka. Deepak sustained a right quadriceps injury while bowling in the third T20I against the West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday, while Suryakumar suffered a hairline fracture while fielding.
Suryakumar, a Mumbai Indians hitter, was hurt while playing in the 3rd T20I against the Windies at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. They will now travel to Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy for further treatment of their injuries, according to a BCCI statement.
Suryakumar, the Player of the Series in the T20I series against the Windies, is the second Indian player to be ruled out of the Sri Lankan T20Is.
After suffering his hamstring injury in Kolkata, Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the forthcoming matches in Lucknow and Dharamsala. “He has been taken out from the series and will finish his rehabilitation at NCA,” a BCCI official said.
It’s unclear whether Chahar will play in the IPL 2022, which is set to start in the last week of March. “The squad has not sought a replacement because vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah is also in the team,” the official continued.
Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant will be rested for the T20 series against Sri Lanka, the BCCI declared Saturday. Kerala’s run machine Sanju Samson, who also captains Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, makes a comeback in the Indian T20 squad.
The three-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka gets underway in Lucknow on Thursday.
