Three doctors names were sent to the ACC for approval earlier in March: Nikhil Tandon, head of the endocrinology department; Rajesh Malhotra, chief of the AIIMS Trauma Centre and head of the department of orthopaedics; and Pramod Garg, professor in the institute’s gastroenterology department. These names were shortlisted by a search-cum-selection committee and subsequently approved by the Institute Body, the top decision-making body of AIIMS.The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) director position was advertised here on June 20 by the ACC, which the prime minister chairs.
After then, Dr. Balram Bhargava, a former director general of the ICMR, MV Padma Srivastava, the head of the Neurosciences Center, and Dr. Rakesh Aggarwal, the director of the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research, Puducherry, were mentioned.
Dr. Sanjay Behari, the director of the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology in Trivandrum, was another name that was being considered. His name had been submitted for approval to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
Dr. Pramod Garg, a professor in the department of gastroenterology, Dr. Nikhil Tandon, the head of the endocrinology department, and Dr. Rajesh Malhotra, the director of the AIIMS Trauma Center, was mentioned earlier in March.
The head of the orthopaedics department that was chosen by AIIMS’ search and selection process is Dr. Rajesh Malhotra. His name was forwarded to the ACC, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in charge of. Later on, though, ACC looked for a few other candidates for the position.
