In an unusual and harsh strike on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government, Manmohan Singh remarked that the Bharatiya Janata Party has been in power for over seven years now but still targets former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for every issue.
In his video message, he could be seen saying, “The position of Prime Minister has a certain dignity.”
In a recorded message aired before the Punjab polls, the veteran Congress leader, the nation’s first and only Sikh Prime Minister, also warned voters against the BJP’s “divisive tactics.”
Ex-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also said that Congress never divided the people of its country for political advantage or to suppress the truth. His message mentioned that the BJP believes in “fake nationalist” policies centered around the British’s divide and rule policy.
Further, in his video message, Dr. Singh said, “forcefully hugging leaders, sitting together on a swing, or reaching out to eat biryani uninvited” does not help bilateral ties.
EX PM addressed the coronavirus pandemic’s consequences, such as the falling of the economy, rise in inflation, unemployment, etc.
He stated, “People are facing inflation and unemployment challenges; but the current government, in authority for the last seven and a half years, instead of acknowledging and correcting its wrong decisions, is still accusing first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for people’s issues.”
Manmohan Singh, in his speech, also added that “PM’s position has a special dignity”; he mentioned how his work spoke for itself during his tenure and how he didn’t let the country lose stature before the globe.
The two-time prime minister further added that post the false allegations laid out by the BJP and its alliance that he’s corrupt, weak, and silent, the current government is getting exposed in front of the whole nation.
Dr. Manmohan Singh further blamed the BJP government for an unsuccessful foreign policy and the failed attempts to resist Chinese encroachment at the Line of Actual Control.
“They (BJP) do not have a grasp of economic strategy. The problem is not restricted to the country. This administration has also failed in foreign affairs. China is stationed at our border, and measures are being taken to contain it (incursions), “Dr. Singh stated.
Dr. Singh went on to say that the government’s economic plan is “selfish and greedy.” He further said that “They (BJP government) are splitting people and having them struggle for their selfish interests.”
Dr. Singh additionally mentioned the safety breach that caused PM Modi’s escort to become delayed on a flyover in Punjab for approximately 20 minutes due to the protests of the agitated farmers.
He said, “A few days back, an effort was made to discredit Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and the residents of the state in the guise of the prime minister’s safety. Even during the farmers’ movement, there was a campaign to discredit Punjab and Punjabiyat. The nation lauds Punjabis for their courage, nationalism, and sacrifice, yet the NDA government did not mention any of these. All of these actions greatly wounded me as a loyal Indian from Punjab.
