After months of public speculation and hints, Elon Musk purchased Twitter Inc finally. The CEO of SpaceX spent approximately $44 billion on this deal.
Trending Hashtags and Prophecies
After the hostile takeover of Twitter Inc. three days ago, memes and hashtags related to this business venture have been trending all over the social media.
Some of the most popular trending hashtags in the last few days include #ElonMusk, #leavingTwitter, #twittersold, and #twittertakeover.
Also, in a surprising turn of events, a Twitter user shared a screenshot of his exchange with Elon Musk.
Five years ago, Elon tweeted a simple line saying, “I like Twitter,” to which Dave Smith, a random Twitter user, advised him to buy it. “How much is it?” was the cheeky reply he had gotten from Elon Musk then.
This Twitter user was then teased by a few other Twitter users as a prophesy maker. Some even blamed him for putting the idea in Musk’s head after Elon Musk purchased Twitter Inc.
Musk’s Future for Twitter
As per a recent statement after Elon Musk purchased Twitter, he stated his views on free speech. He called free speech the “bedrock of a functioning democracy.”
That the best platform to maintain free speech is Twitter, where matters related to humanity, small or large, are discussed and debated.
Musk will also work on enhancing some new features on Twitter, like removing bots and authenticating only human accounts.
Previously, Musk had been very vocal about his annoyance with spam bots on Twitter. Bots are fake accounts that spread false information or trap innocent users in scams.
Twitter does meticulously remove these fake accounts by using software that can detect automation during registration. But accounts like manual fake accounts are much harder to weed out as they are created by real people.
Conclusion
The future plans after Elon Musk purchased Twitter may be harder to implement because free speech can be misused to use hate speech. For years, Twitter has tried to curb hate speech, but with Musk’s new plan, it might be for nothing.
The idea of authenticating human accounts is also a sore point for some users who love their anonymity. Minorities on Twitter, such as LGBTQ+ and racial communities, face a great deal of harassment.
Authentication of their identities will only add to the conflict in their free speech.
