Everyone is well aware of the Watergate scandal that brought down the Nixon administration. And there is definitely no one who js not aware of the richest man in the world today: Elon Musk. What we are not aware of is Elongate.
A report was published online which claimed that the Tesla boss, Elon Musk, had paid a flight attendant $250,000 to settle a sexual misconduct accusation filed against him in 2018. The buisness magnate broke his silence on the matter, stating on the record that the “wild accusations are utterly untrue.”
The report was published by Business Insider on Thursday, claiming that Musk, the world’s richest man had paid off an anonymous private jet flight attendant who had accused him of exposing himself to her.
According to the said article, the attendant worked as a member of the cabin crew on a contractual basis for SpaceX’s corporate jet fleet. She also accused the billionaire of rubbing her leg without consent and offering to buy her a horse in exchange for an “erotic massage”.
The report quoted an anonymous person as the source. The person claimed to be a friend of the flight attendant in question. This ‘friend’ had provided a statement as a part of the private settlement process, as per the article which quoted materials from interviews and documents obtained by Insider.
Responding to these allegations and proving them to be baseless, Mr. Musk tweeted “I have a challenge to this liar who claims their friend saw me ‘exposed’ – describe just one thing, anything at all (scars, tattoos, …) that isn’t known by the public. She won’t be able to do so, because it never happened,”
The alleged incident as per the report happened in 2016. This is as per the corroboration provided by the signed declaration of the attendant’s friend. As per the friend, in whom the attendant confided in, the woman was encouraged to get a license as a masseuse after taking the flight attendant job, so that she could give massages to Musk. She further said during one such massage session, in a private cabin on Musk’s Gulfstream G650ER, he propositioned her.
In addition to exposing himself, Musk allegedly rubbed the flight attendant’s thigh and offered to buy her a horse if she would “do more” during the in-flight massage. She rejected his proposition and went on to file a complaint with SpaceX’s (SPACE) human resources department in 2018, claiming her career opportunities had been hurt by her refusal and she was being retaliated against when her shifts were cut back. SpaceX (SPACE) took the issue to a mediator, and the woman signed a restrictive non-disclosure and non-disparagement clause that included a promise to never discuss the severance payment or divulge any information of any kind about Musk and his businesses.
In his first reaction to allegations, Musk had urged people to see the matter through “political lens”, clarifying it without a doubt, that nothing, absolutely nothing will deter him from fighting for a good future and the right to freedom of speech.
Earlier, in 2021, he had tweeted, “If there’s ever a scandal about me, *please* call it Elongate.”
Insider said it contacted Musk for comment, but he emailed back to ask for more time to respond, saying there was “a lot more to this story.” “If I were inclined to engage in sexual harassment, this is unlikely to be the first time in my entire 30-year career that it comes to light,” he wrote, calling the story a “politically motivated hit piece.” The account was leaked by the flight attendant’s friend, who felt that “remaining silent would make her complicit.”
Whether this alleged incident is true, partially true or false remains to be seen. Mr. Musk bas unequivocally denied any truth in these allegations and inherently called them baseless. He has asked for proof, issuing a challenge with regards to bodily features that are unknown to the general public. It remains to be seen what the actual truth is with regards to these allegations, whether they are just a political ploy to degrade Musk’s reputation or whether they have some truth in them. Only time shall tell.
